PART 1 ESSAY

It is a prevalent belief that as our lives became replete with technology over the years, the levels of
happiness and health have decreased noticeably, becoming inferior to the ones in the beginning of the 20th
century. Furthermore, this issue frequently occurs among the youth, which will result in a future sedentary
population, whose matter should be resolved urgently by the institutions in which they spend most of their
times: schOOls.
One approach that schools could take would be implementing sports programmes in the students’
schedules which are filled with subjects that are supposed to develop their mental capacity. No one would
dispute the fact that keeping one’s body fit induces one’s mind to work at its fullest, hence movement is
undoubtedly needed in their path to education. Moreover, each school gym should own efficient equipment
which will meet each of the scholars’ desires, in terms of practicing sports.
An alternative approach, in case the school does not own the necessary funds for building a legit gym,
should concern the local councils of every town and it consists in organising sports clubs, where children can
gather and choose to take up on what they each prefer. These clubs would have a wide range of facilities and
people of all ages could enjoy them.
To conclude, schools should really address the matter of their students’ physical health, but unless
they are willing to financially invest in it, they should also require help from the local councils. Therefore, sports
clubs could be organised, which I think should soon become ubiquitous.
PART 2 REPORT

To: Robert O’KK, head of research group

From: Lindsey O’Colonasd, student
Subject: The employment prospects for young people in my area
Date: 07/08/29
INTRODUCTION
As requested, this is a report concerning the employment
prospects for young people in my area and the difficulties they
encounter in the process of finding one. Moreover, the likely
future developments will also be included.
TYPES OF EMPLOYMENT AVAILABLE
Although there is not a wide range of possibilities for the unemployed youth in my area, due to the
fact that our town is small, there still are some viable options. The fields in which they could evolve are
banking, sales, education, and perhaps the most specific one for our area, tourism.
DIFFICULTIES FACED WHILE SEARCHING FOR WORK
Hitherto, the majority of the young people who come here, looking for a job, have plenty of certificates
which show how qualified they are, but, unfortunately, they fail getting employed, due to the lack of vacancies.
When firms have plenty of employees, they tend not to create suplimentary job offers, which could eventually
lead to additional cost. Hence, the local rate of unemployment rises, forcing the young people to move to
bigger urban areas, where they have more possibilities.
FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS
However, if efficient changes would be made by the local council all over our area, the touristic
potential of our town would be largely improved and, in the foreseeable future, youngsters could get more
easily employed in the scope of the tourism. Therefore, the population of our town would stop decreasing,
instead giving our area a prosperous look.
FORMAL LETTER
To the manager,
As the Events Organizer at the college I work
at, I would like to offer my profuse apologies for
the students’ actions, whose trip last weekend I
organised.
Although their behavior is surely not water-
tight, they are still teenagers in essence and they
often act hastily and incatious, not foreseeing the
consequences of their actions. Moreover, they
have had a busy period replete with exams and my
intention was to allow them to release all that
pent-up tension, by having frolic in this mini-holiday I planned for them. However, I acknowledge that by
ascribing their comportment to their exams will not excuse their meddling with the other tourists at your
hostel and I fully comprehend your disapproval regards this matter.
Nonetheless, I would like to change your biased decision towards not allowing any other students from
our college to visit your hostel in the future. I ascertain you that this shown kind of lack of manners from the
students will not be a recurrent problem and I hope you do not belittle our general conduct at our college, in
which we always attempt ensuring that our students behave in the best way possible.
May I apologise again for this inconvenience and I look forward to being able to cooperate again,
hopefully in the near future. Yours faithfully,
PROPOSAL Ruxandra Ilinca Stillapeanut
To: The Conference Organizers
From: Rux Jdfsj, student
Subject: Proposal for the Advanced conference to be held in my
school
Date: 10/10/10
PURPOSE
The purpose of this report is to outline why the school which I
attend should be chosen to organize the two-day regional
conference for students preparing for the Advanced examination.
FACILITIES WITHIN THE SCHOOL
The highschool presents diverse facilities which can ensure an accurate experience for the ones who
attend the conference. Our school has been a host for actual Advanced examinations for a long time and it has
improved over the years, given the fact that we have competent examiners and a modern audio laboratory,
equiped with headphones useful in the Listening tasks of the exam.
ACCOMMODATION
Within the town itself, there is a wide selection of hotels, and no shortage of guesthouses offering
accomodation which includes meals and a warm, friendly welcome. Although, the highschool is relatively on
the outskirts of our town, you can get there from your hotel either by walking, using your own car ( parking
lots are available at our school) or using the public transport.
TRANSPORT
Therefore, regarding the available public transport, the buses are reliable by respecting their
timetables and arrive at the bus station from 15 to 15 minutes. Furthermore, local transport firms could
feasibly provide extra services, accompanying the conference participants in their journeys.
FURTHER LEISURE AND ENTARTAINMENT POSSIBILITIES
In their free time, participants could benefit from attending the town’s spa centre, situated within
walking distance from the highschool, or they could go on a cultural journey and discover the history of our
town, by visiting the history museum.
CONCLUSION
To conclude, you can be ascertained that by joining the conference which should be held at our
highschool, participants would feel like home and enjoy their educational experience.
REVIEW
Have you ever needed a coursebook to help you in the
preparation for the Advanced exam? I surely did and found all I
needed cached in the Ready for Advanced book, written by Roy
Norris and Amanda French.
To begin with, it contains both exercises to practice your
vocabulary, but also a wide range of practice tests with key, which
helps you check your answers, and included CDs, helping you
improve in the Listening task of the exam. Moreover, at the end of
the book, a wordlist to help you in your essays is provided and also
a grammar reference column.
Its design is a well-thought, given the fact that every aspect of
the exam is approached, ensuring relevant practice in reading,
listening, writing and speaking, preparing the students in an
efficient manner for the exam. The course also includes a
systematic approach for word formation, an important part in the
Reading and Use of English task.
Furthermore, the book does not focus only on accumulating information, but also checking what you
actually retained in the process of learning, whereas other editors choose to leave this review part aside.
Hence, the book includes at the end of every unit a section, which enables you to revise and practise the
vocabulary you have encountered in the unit.
My personal experience with this coursebook fulfilled the gaps I had while preparing for the English
exam, meeting my needs and also enhancing to a superior level my vocabulary, without giving the impression
that it is replete with unnecessary exercises ( written just for extra pages ). All in all, I fully recommend it to
other students who need to improve their English.
ARTICLE

Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing in response to your request for writers which would tell the stories of people whose lives
marked the local area through their behaviour and would be of interest to an international readership.
To begin with, a viable example would be a local known person, which was admired by many for his
strength and endurance in tough conditions. His name was Sandel and he was a man who lived on the streets,
but impressed everyone with his kindness and the joy which was permanently spread on his face with his
unfathomable eyes. However, he was not water-tight and sometimes he felt an urge of touching people on
their hair, probably from lack of affection. He once touched me on my hair and although i felt disgusted,
unbeknown to me was his greatness and poverty in which he lived. The news of his death came with sorrow
and woe in our lives, but we managed to raise funds and organise a proper funeral for him.
Another example which I could relate about would be my grandma, whose lifestyle did not mark the
town but it had a major impact on my life and I think it is a model to talk about. All her life, her actions were
always inclined towards the goodness of others and not for hers. She dedicated her life to growing her
daughter, sacrificing her emotional happiness for her sake, thus the reason I would like to write about her.
To conclude, I am convinced that these people would be of interest to people in other countries and I
would very much like to have the opportunity to write about them for your magazine.
Yours faithfully,
El Negro
