Bell ringing [ ] REFLECTION The call of the disciples tells a story of an encounter with Christ in which
they are sought out, seen, recognised and known for who they really are, and given a new
Junior Church/young peoples’ groups [ ] and wonderful purpose as disciples. Through this they will, in turn, come to recognise and
know Christ for who he truly is. This pattern is repeated again and again in scripture, and in

 PLOUGH SERVICE

We will pray for God’s blessing on the ploughing and sowing and all involved in the
agricultural industry. The Highside Longsword will perform after the service and then
mulled wine and sausages will be served.
PASTORAL SCHEME
The Church Commissioners have now published a Pastoral Scheme for the union of the
benefices of Masham and Healey with West Tanfield, North Stainley and Well with Snape.
A full copy of the scheme is available on the notice board of each church.
These draft proposals provide for:
 the union of the benefice of Masham and Healey and the benefice of West Tanfield and
Well with Snape and North Stainley (their constituent parishes to remain distinct);
 the appointment of the Reverend David John Cleeves as first incumbent of the new
benefice;
 his parsonage house to be that of the benefice of Masham and Healey;
 the disposal of the parsonage house of the benefice of West Tanfield and Well with
Snape and North Stainley;
 and the future patronage arrangements for the new benefice
Anyone may make representations to Church Commissioners for or against all or any part
or parts of the Scheme (please include the reasons for your views) in writing or by email by

CONFIRMATION PREPARATION GROUPS for adults and young people will shortly be
starting, leading to a Confirmation Service at Masham on Sunday April 29 th. Confirmation
is about becoming a committed member of the local and worldwide Christian family: it
marks the point in the Christian journey at which you affirm for yourself the faith into
which you have been baptized and your intention to live a life of committed discipleship.
This affirmation is confirmed through prayer and the laying on of hands by the confirming
bishop. The Church also asks God to give you power through the Holy Spirit to enable you
to live in the way of Jesus. The purpose of confirmation preparation is to ensure that those
who are confirmed have a proper understanding of what it means to live as a disciple of
Christ within the life of the Church of England. Preparation sessions encourage candidates
to grow in their Christian faith through prayer, reflection, studying the Bible and
participating actively in the life of the church. If you are interested please contact David

STUDY GROUP Meets to read the Bible, discuss the issues it highlights and to learn from
each other. All are welcome; those who are curious about Christianity and want to find out
more or those who have been exploring Christianity for a long time. Our meetings are on
Thursday evenings starting at 7.30 p.m. and finishing about 9.00 p.m. The next
meeting is on Thursday 18th January at The Vicarage, Rodney Terrace, Masham. We

REVELATION 5: 1-10
Then I saw in the right hand of the one seated on the throne a scroll written on the
inside and on the back, sealed with seven seals; and I saw a mighty angel proclaim-
ing with a loud voice, ‘Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?’ And
no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or to
look into it. And I began to weep bitterly because no one was found worthy to open
the scroll or to look into it. Then one of the elders said to me, ‘Do not weep. See,
the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can
open the scroll and its seven seals.’
Then I saw between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders a
Lamb standing as if it had been slaughtered, having seven horns and seven eyes,
which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. He went and took the
scroll from the right hand of the one who was seated on the throne. When he had
taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell before the
Lamb, each holding a harp and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers
of the saints. They sing a new song: ‘You are worthy to take the scroll and to open
its seals, for you were slaughtered and by your blood you ransomed for God saints
from every tribe and language and people and nation; you have made them to be a
kingdom and priests serving our God, and they will reign on earth.’

The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, ‘Fol-
low me.’ Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip
found Nathanael and said to him, ‘We have found him about whom Moses in the
law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus son of Joseph from Nazareth.’ Nathanael
said to him, ‘Can anything good come out of Nazareth?’ Philip said to him, ‘Come
and see.’ When Jesus saw Nathanael coming towards him, he said of him, ‘Here is
truly an Israelite in whom there is no deceit!’ Nathanael asked him, ‘Where did you
come to know me?’ Jesus answered, ‘I saw you under the fig tree before Philip
called you.’ Nathanael replied, ‘Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of
Israel!’ Jesus answered, ‘Do you believe because I told you that I saw you under the
fig tree? You will see greater things than these.’ And he said to him, ‘Very truly, I
tell you, you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descend-
ing upon the Son of Man.’
