PRAYERS & INSTRUCTION

THE HOLY FAMILY
We consider the Holy Family as an example of
prayer. Their home in Nazareth has a spirit of quiet
about it. Certainly there was joy in that house. Holy peo-
ple are the happiest people and so a family composed of
the three holiest people was the most joyful family of all.
The atmosphere of their home in Nazareth was filled
with love and prayer. Indeed, the family is the first
school of prayer. If you find that family life is difficult do
not forget that the Holy Family is with you. Remember
Jesus, Mary and Joseph suffered hardships and difficul-
ties. The Holy Family was well acquainted with grief
from their exile in Egypt to Jesus’ crucifixion. And so, if
your family suffers, if your family struggles, the Holy
Family is close to you, especially today the Feast of the
Holy Family! Are you joyful or suffering trials? No mat-
ter which is the case, Jesus, Mary and Joseph are your
companions. Turn to them then. Speak with them. Ask
them for assistance and aid. They will bring you safely
through the storms of this life into life everlasting.

O Lord Jesus Christ, who when Thou wast sub-

ject to Mary and Joseph didst sanctify the home
life with ineffable virtues: grant that by their as-
sistance, we may be instructed by the example of
Thy Holy Family and become partakers of their
eternal happiness: Who livest and reignest.

holy and beloved, the bowels of mercy, benignity, humility,
modesty, patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving one
another, if any have a complaint against another, even as the
Lord hath forgiven you, so you also. But above all these things,
have charity, which is the bond of perfection: and let the peace of
Christ rejoice in your hearts, wherein also you are called in one
body: and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you
abundantly, in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one anoth-
er, in psalms, hymns, and spiritual canticles, singing in grace in
your hearts to God. All whatsoever you do in word or in work,
all things do ye in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, giving
thanks to God and the Father through Jesus Christ our Lord.
