SEMESTER: MONSOON SESSION: 2016 - 2017

Examination & Semester: End Semester Exam, B.Tech. (ECE), 3rd Sem.
Subject: ECC-13103 (Network Theory and Filter Design) Time: 3 Hours
Maximum Marks: 100
Instructions:
1. Make suitable assumptions, if necessary and state them clearly. Attempt all question in order.
2. There are 07 questions in total on two printed pages.
3. Attempt ALL questions from PART-I and attempt any TWO question from PART-II
4. Credit will be given to neat and precise answer.

PART- I (All Questions are Compulsory)

Q. No. Questions Marks
1. For the circuit in Fig. 1, Find for v(t) t > 0. 12

2. Find the order of an active low pass Butterworth filter whose specifications are given 12
as: Ap = 0.5dB at a pass band frequency (ωp) of 31.8Hz, and As = 20dB at a stop band frequency
(ωs) of 127.3Hz. Also design a suitable Butterworth filter circuit to match these requirements.

3. The ABCD parameters of the two-port network 12

in Fig. 2 are:

The output port is connected to a variable load for maximum power transfer. Find RL and the
maximum power transferred.

4. For the circuit in Fig. 3, Find for Vo. 12

5. Assume that there is no initial energy stored in the circuit of Fig. 4 at t = 0 and that is = 12
10u(t) (a) Find Vo(s) using Thevenin’s theorem (b) apply the initial - and final-value
theorems to find vo (0+) and vo (∞) (c) determine vo(t).

PART- II (Attempt any TWO Question)

6. (a) The circuit of Fig. 5 contains a voltage controlled voltage source. For this circuit, 12
draw the oriented graph. By selecting the branches of (II), (III) & (IV) construct a tree
and obtain the tie-set matrix and hence calculate voltage Vx.

(b) Use superposition theorem on the circuit shown in Fig. 6 to find I. 8

7. (a) For the circuit in Fig. 7, find v(t) and i(t) for t > 0. Consider these cases (i) R = 5 Ω, 12
(ii) R = 4 Ω, (iii) R = 1 Ω.

(b) In the two-port as shown in Fig. 8, Let y12 = y21 = 0, y11 = 2 mS and y11 = 10 mS. 8
Find Vo/Vs.
