Baricuatro, Jhon Louie S.
BSEd-Biological Science 3A
I. Objectives:
At the end the lesson 80% of the student with at least 80% proficiency should
be able to;
a. Define acceleration and deceleration;
b. Give at least three examples of acceleration and deceleration happens in
real life; and
c. Solve problems involving acceleration and deceleration.

II. Subject Matter

a. Topic: “Accelerated and Decelerated Motion”
b. Subtopic: Comparison of Accelerated and Decelerated Motion
c. References: You and the Natural World – The New Science 7
Pages 178 – 181
d. Materials:
 PowerPoint Presentation
 Illustrations

III. Learning Strategies

A. Daily Routine
1.1 Cleanliness of the Classroom
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
“Everyone pickup those pieces of paper (the students will pick up the pieces of
under your chair and put it in trash bin and papers and arrange their seats properly)
arrange your chairs properly.”
1.2 Opening prayer
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
“Let us all stand. (call a student to lead the (the students will recite the opening
prayer)” prayer)
1.3 Greetings
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
“Good evening class.” “Good evening Sir.”
“You may now take your sit.” (The students will kindly sit)
1.4 Checking of attendance
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
“Secretary of the class, is there any absent “I’m gladly to report that there is no absent
for today?” for today sir.”
“Okay very good.”

B. Recall
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
“Do you still remember our previous “Yes sir.”
lesson?”
“Would you like to tell us what our previous “Our previous topic is all about Motion in
topic Christian?” one dimension and we tackle about speed
and velocity.”
“As a review, I prepared an activity entitled
“Catch TD”
“Please read the direction Sheryl.” Direction: There are three levels to catch
Sonic the hedgehog. In every level there is
a corresponding question that you have to
solve.
“Are you ready to play this activity?” “Yes we are”
“Read the First question Andrew. Show “Q1: Sonic runs in a 14m highway in just
your solution to the board” 7secs. What is his average speed?”
Answer: 2 m/s
“Very Good! For the next question would “Q2: Sonic travel to 20m castle and has a
you like to read and solve it Francis.” speed of 5 m/s. How fast Sonic travels?
Answer: 4secs
“Excellent! And now for the last question ”Q3: In a velocity of 10 m/s, Sonic went to
may I call on Jobeth. Read and show your grocery in just 5secs. How far Sonic
solution to the question. travels?”
Answer: 50m
“Job well done class. Looks like you
already mastered our past topic.

C. Motivation
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
“I have prepared another game entitled (the students will raise their hand)
“Catch my BALLS” before we proceed to
our topic, and I like you to form two groups
and have each one representative to play
the game.
Mechanics: each representative will catch
the balls until it runs out of number and the
fastest group will win”
“Please read the Direction First” Direction: there are five balls in the field
and all you have to do is to catch it one by
one until there is no ball left and you’ll win.
“Are you ready to play? Let’s begin” (the representatives will play the game)
“What can you notice about the ball?” “It accelerates and decelerates”
“Very Good! Our topic for today is about
accelerated and decelerated Motion”

IV. Lesson Proper

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
“Who among you watch the movie fast and (the students will raise their hand)
furious? What can you observe in the way “They running their cars fast”
they drive?”
“Another thing. If you’re running late in “were moving faster sir”
your first subject class, what would you
do?”
Constant Speed does not always occur in (the students will listen carefully)
real life situation. A car seldom travels at
constant speed for long. Sometimes it
speeds up and slows down.
On roller coaster ride passengers
experience rapid changes in velocity.
And these are the examples of application
of acceleration and deceleration in real life.
“What can you notice on the posted “The car changes in velocity as time goes
picture? Would you like to describe it by it speeds up and slows down”
Kevin”
“Great observation Kevin! And the change (the students will listen carefully)
of velocity for every unit of time is what we
call acceleration.”
“Acceleration has magnitude and direction.
Therefore acceleration is a vector quantity.
Also Acceleration is an increase and
decrease of magnitude of the velocity,
although the word decelerations
sometimes use to indicate a decrease in
the magnitude of the velocity.”
“Acceleration has a general formula of E1: A race car accelerates from rest to 50
(a=change in velocity/change in time) and m/s in 10 secs. What is the car’s average
so the deceleration. acceleration? Show your solution.
Would you like to read and answer the
example posted buno?” Answer: 5 m/s2
“Very Good Buno! Who would like to E2: A bus decelerates from 20 m/s to 15
Answer the next example? Yes Arvie.” m/s in 5secs. What is its average
deceleration? Show your solution.

Answer: -1m/s2
“Note that we use negative sign in
deceleration to indicate that the velocity is
decreasing.

V. Generalization
Is it important to know the concept of acceleration and deceleration? Why?
What are the things that we commonly see acceleration and deceleration in real life?
VI. Application: Group Activity
Direction: The class will be grouped into two. There will be two questions in each group
and they have to draw an illustration as their answer in the given materials. They only
have 3-5mins to do their work and discuss it in front.

Group 1:
 If an object is accelerating, can its velocity be constant? Explain why.
 A school bus has an initial speed of 30 m/s and decelerates at the rate of 2 m/s2.
How long does it take to stop the school bus?
Group 2
 Can an object have a constant speed and a varying velocity at the same time?
Explain?
 Which has greater deceleration, a bicycle moving at 20 m/s then slowing down to
stop in 6secs or a car slowing down from 20 m/s to 15 m/s in 6secs?

VII. Evaluation
1.) Differentiate acceleration from deceleration.
2-4.) Give at least three examples where acceleration and deceleration occurs
5-7.) A 7kg truck decelerates from 30m/s to 10m/s in 10secs. What is the truck’s
average deceleration?
8-10.) A train pick-up 2000 passengers and accelerate from rest to 150m/s to
reach the next station in just 30secs and pick up another 360 passengers. What is the
average acceleration of the train?

VIII. Assignment
1. Read about free falling motion
2. What are the factors that affects free falling motion?
3. Which of the two fall faster in a vacuum area feather or rock?
