[/goto_index]

I would first like to add that the United States Marshals Service is entirely
different from the Tierra Robada Sheriff's Office. The United States Marshals
Service (USMS) is a federal law enforcement agency within the U.S. Department of
Justice. The United States Marshals Service had many tasks to perform with one of
their most popular tasks being; serving subpoenas, warrants, making arrests, and
handling prisoners. They do not handle petty crimes, leaving those to be handled by
the Sheriff's Department instead, US Deputy Marshals can only perform arrests if
they have a valid warrant. U.S. Marshals have the authority to carry firearms and
make an arrest on all federal warrants.

Below I will be listing the duties of the US Marshals Service;

Judicial and Town Hall/Courthouse Security - U.S. Deputy Marshals can
be found in court and/or the town hall protecting judges, prosecutors and
witnesses; conducting and managing courtroom, courthouse and town hall security;
etc.

Fugitive Apprehension - U.S. Deputy Marshals work with federal, state
and local authorities to apprehend and arrest fugitives; planning and implementing
extraditions and deportations of fugitives; serving court papers, which is also
known as service of process (execute federal court civil and criminal process
through a subpoena, summons, writ of habeas corpus, warrant or other means); etc.

Protecting federal witness(es)/members of the federal judiciary - U.S.
Deputy Marshals are responsible for protecting government witnesses; re-documenting
and relocating protected witnesses; making sure prisoners were present, the jurors
were available, and the witnesses were on time for court; etc.

Asset Seizure - U.S. Deputy Marshals are responsible for seizing,
managing and disposing of forfeited assets acquired by criminals through illegal
activities.

Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 - U.S. Deputy Marshals are tasked with
enforcing this law; to recover and arrest fugitive slaves. Any negligence in doing
so exposed marshals and deputies to severe financial penalties.

Immigration Checks - U.S. Deputy Marshals are tasked with performing
immigration checks; determine if immigrant is an alien; tasked with deporting them
back to country.

Business License Checks - U.S. Deputy Marshals are tasked with
checking businesses for business licenses; required to shut down businesses lacking
valid registration/license.

Census Check - U.S. Deputy Marshals are tasked with collecting
national census of citizens every decade.
The United States Marshals Service operates over the entire country but we
specifically operate over Tierra Robada. Law Enforcement misconduct must be
reported and dealt with appropriately.

Dress Code[/goto_index]

Director of Marshals

Deputy Director of Marshals

Chief of Staff

United States Marshal

Deputy United States Marshal
Deputy United States Marshal:

This is the very first rank in the hierarchy of the Marshals Service. Every Marshal
begins his service here, this point serving as an accomodation period for most, it
teaches the Marshal of the basic duties, responsibilities and obligations of the
Service. Most Deputy Marshals are still considered rookies, which is why several
restrictions are in place for them.

A Deputy Marshal can only carry a handgun as weaponry, they might be granted
permission to carry larger weaponry, but this exception is only granted in extreme
situations (i.e a lack of law men to deal with (heavily) armed outlaws). Deputy
Marshals have an authority almost as imposing as a regular Marshal, their authority
still being considered above that of the local Sheriff's Department. A Deputy
Marshal is not to apprehend known armed and dangerous suspect on their own, but
rather do so with a partner, of the same or higher rank.

Once they have proven their competence, a Deputy Marshal is ready to advance and
become a Marshal. An official promotion must be granted to them by the Director, or
the Deputy Director of the Marshals Service.

United States Marshal:

The second rank in the hierarchy of the Marshals Service. Those that have reached
this rank have already went through training and have proven they are competent
members of the Service. They are now trusted amongst the posse and are granted more
in terms of weaponry. A Marshal is authorized to use a handgun, as well as a pump-
action shotgun, they are however restricted from using bolt-reloaded rifles, and
long-range rifles, unless they are given permission to do so by higher authority.

A Marshal's authority is now enough to issue orders to the lower-ranking, Deputy

Marshals. Refusing to abide to orders given by a higher-ranking member of the
Service is considered insubordination and it is unacceptable. Insubordination will
result in disciplinary measure(s) being taken, these range from a warning to
dismissal from the Service.

This is the most common rank in the U.S Marshals Service, for a Marshal to advance
from here, they have to prove they are extraordinary in the field, in order to be
selected and granted a higher authority, which comes with additional
responsibility.

Chief of Staff:

The Chief of Staff is the third rank in the hierarchy of the Marshals Service.
Marshals that have proven themselves can be advanced to this rank, in order to
watch over the others employed within the Service. The Chief of Staff is more a
title than it is a rank, and brings with it both responsibilities and benefits. The
Chief of Staff is granted authority over all those beneath him.

The Chief of Staff is permitted to use heavy weaponry, making their permitted
arsenal consist of a handgun, a pump-action shotgun, and a bolt action rifle.
Additionally, the Chief of Staff may issue permissions to other Marshals, these
permissions ranging from permission to carry a certain firearm to permission to
execute a warrant. The one issuing said permission takes full responsibility for
the consequences that may arise as a result of his allowance.

The Chief of Staff within a Marshals agency isn't bound to change frequently, as
not many are capable and trusted enough to gain such authority within the service;
a mistake as the Chief of Staff might lead, depending on it's severity, from
dismissal from the Service to as far as to being imprisoned.

Deputy Director of Marshals:

The Deputy Director is the fourth rank in the hierarchy of the Marshals Service.
For one to reach this position, they must have been in service for over three
years, and must have been awarded and proven themselves in the field numerous
times. Usually, a Chief of Staff that has performed greatly, providing a spotless
service is granted this rank.

The Deputy Director of Marshals has no restriction over weaponry, nor does he take
any orders, except for direct orders from the Director of Marshals. He may grant
demotions and promotions to Marshals, as well as hand out all the permissions that
the Chief of Staff is allowed to. The Deputy Director has nearly full-authority
over the regiment of Marshals he's been appointed in.

Director of Marshals:

The Director of Marshals is the highest ranking in the hierarchy of the Marshals
Service. There are no restrictions for the Director within the Service, although
this position comes with the greatest responsibility. Even the slightest mistake is
frowned upon and might result in severe consequences. The Director may at will
promote a Chief of Staff to be his right hand, a Deputy Director, and he may grant
any and all permissions within the Service.

The U.S Marshals Service employs a special dress code for those employed within the
Service. The standard uniform issued to those serving the Marshals consists of the
following:

A formal attire, be it a suit or a vest lapped over a shirt of

grey/white collar; trenchcoats can be worn additionally.

A cowboy hat.

A visible badge.

A duty belt. (issued to every Marshal).
The duty belt contains the core equipment a Marshal requires in the line of duty,
such as handcuffs, their communication device, and holsters for various weaponry,
such as their handgun or their lasso. Additionally, the badge of the Marshal must
be visible at all times, so that the townfolk are able to identify them as law
enforcement; the only exception for this is being granted permission to alter your
dress code when on-duty. While on-duty, a Marshal must always have the
aforementioned, failure to do so will result in disciplinary measure(s) being
taken.
