III. INDUSTRIAL PROCESS DESCRIPTION

3.1 GENERAL PRODUCTION PROCESS

1st step: TREE FELLING

– the process of downing trees

2nd step: STORAGE
- trees are stored in a clearing. Sometimes logs
are stored in the forest until they are needed at
the sawmill. This allows some of the ‘free’ water
content to evaporate, reducing the weight of the
tree/log
3rd step: TRANSPORTING TO SAWMILL
- logs are transportedto the sawmill using vehicles
equipped with lifting gear.
4th step: SORTING AND GRADING
- logs are sorted according to thickness, width,
length, quality depending on the market
requirements.
- wood are segregated according to the overall
quality, direction of grain, presence of knots and
defects as well as general appearance, etc.

4
5th step: SEASONING
– logs are stack in piles in the open or
under sheds on suitably prepared ground , in
such manner that they are exposed to a good
flow of air until such time that the required moisture content
is attained.
6th step: RESAWING TOSURFACING
- before delivery, woods are inspected for any
defects which may have resulted during the
drying process, such as split-ends, loose knots,
etc., which may be removed by trimming and
therefore upgrading its value
7th step: MANUFACTURE A PRODUCT
- wood are created into a desired finished product

3.2 INDUSTRIAL PROCESSES

1st step: DESIGNING

- imported woods are designed according to the

desired products (doors, flooring, decks, etc.)
2nd – 8th steps are the treatment processes
2nd step: LOADING OF TIMBER
- the desire products are loaded in treatment
chamber
3rd step: APPLYING INITIAL VACUUM
- initial vacuum is applied to remove all air from
chamber
4th step: APPLYING SOLIGNUM
- chamber is filled with industrial strength Solignum
preservative
5th step: FORCE PRESERVATIVE
- chamber is pressurized to force preservative into
timber
6th step: DRAINING PRESERVATIVE
- preservative is drained from the chamber
7th step: APPLYING FINAL VACUUM

5
- final vacuum is applied in order to remove excess
preservative
8th step: UNLOADING
- timber is unloaded from the chamber

IV. ANALYSIS OF THE STUDY

Since a law, Senate Bill No. 275 - TOTAL LOG BAN was
implemented to save our remaining forests and to ensure the
successful reforestation of the badly denuded areas Matimco
Incorporated stopped the production of the wood already. But
Matimco Incorporated continuous to develop services which offers
wood treatments. The company is set to focus on the treatment and
maintaining the durability and strength of each product. And since,
Matimco does not involved in the production process, Matimco does
the Importing process. Matimco import products internationally which
lead them to be the leading architectural wood brand in the nation.

V. RECOMMENDATION

Matimco Incorporated is one of the best manufacturer of wood in

the country. Their wood being made internationally gives comfort
to their client and to the country itself with the use of their finished
product.

The researchers recommend that they should innovate products

such as making their own furniture and etc. In addition, they
should invest their business internationally in order to expound
their products globally.

VI. CONCLUSION

Wood alone is not enough. Matwood believes engineering without

beauty is only secondary and wood simply withstanding pest attacks
does not celebrate the full potential of the sustainable material.
Nature still knows best for, despite all efforts at imitation, no man-

6
made product can catch the beauty, uniqueness and performance
offered by wood.

VII. REALIZATION OF THE ACTIVITY

Wood is one of nature's truly remarkable materials. It possesses

unique beauty, built-in durability and time proven performances
establishing itself the ultimate sustainable building product. Wood
reduces greenhouse gases, generates less water and air pollution,
requires less energy to produce than alternatives and comes from a
renewable resource. Today, more than ever before, the urgency to
rediscover ways to reduce the pressure on our planet's finite
environment and resources is upon us.
