International research:

2014-2017 Under contract to UNESCO via World Editors Forum to undertake a global study of
developments in legal source protection frameworks across 121 countries over a 10-year period. The
80,00-word study was published as a book by UNESCO in May 2017: Protecting Journalism Sources in
the Digital Age

2014/2015 Research contract with World Association of News Publishers/World Editors Forum to
examine the future of global journalism in the digital age, map newsroom trends, and report on digital
transformation (Funding approx. Euro 70,000)

Nationally funded, cross-institutional journalism research projects:

Chief Investigator, University of Canberra, Journalism in Multicultural Australia and Reporting
Diversity 2005-2009 (Funding approx. AU$20,000)

• I ran a sub-project on media coverage of Muslim women post-9/11
• Development of extensive online research database, which exists as a global clearinghouse
for publications on journalism, diversity and race.
• Co-researcher – Talkback Radio in Multicultural Australia (Major Project)

ANU, ABC, Canberra Refugee Support).
