STRUCTURAL DESIGN

The modeling and analysis of the structure has been carried out using ETABS software.

Load Calculation
The frames are designed for live load, dead load and wind load.

Dead Load

The dead load due to the weight of all sections used has been computed automatically based on the
model created by the etabs software and included in the analysis. The external dead loads applied are
due to spiral and s;urry flowing through it.

The weight of a single spiral is assumed to be 500 kg.

Since there are 10 spirals in a single bank the weight of a single spiral bank is 5000 kg. The load is thus
50 kN.
The weight of slurry flowing per hour through a single spiral per turn is 4.29. Thus the weight of slurry
flowing through a single spiral bank per hour is 129 tonnes. Assuming the slurry takes 1 minute to flow
down the spiral the load is 21.5 kN.

The toal load due to a single spiral bank is thus 71.5 kN.

The effective load is taken as 100 kN for one single bank.

Live load

The magnitude of live load depends upon the type of occupancy of building IS 875-1987 (PART 2) has
specified certain minimum values of live loads (or imposed loads) for specific purpose. The live load
distribution varies with time. Hence each member is designed for worst combination of dead and live
loads. A reduction in live load is allowed for a beam if it carries a load from an area greater than 50 sqm.

Wind Load

Wind is air in motion relative to the surface of the earth. The wind generally blows horizontal to the
ground at high wind speeds. Since vertical components of atmospheric motion are relatively small, the
term wind refers to almost exclusively the horizontal wind. The liability of a building to high wind
pressures depends not only upon the geographical location and proximity of other obstructions to air
flow but also upon the characteristic of the structure itself. Wind loads are calculated using IS 875, PART
3, 1987.
