Forecast for January 2018

Long-Term Shifts in 2018

2017 kicks off with a set of planetary

alignments that began in December 2016 and
which guarantee this year will be a hot mess.

2018 bodes well to be a smoother, less

stressful year than 2017. There are only two
planetary aspects in play this year and both
involve Jupiter connecting harmoniously with
another planet. One is Jupiter trine Neptune,
which brings a mood of tolerance, compassion
and spiritual harmony. The other is Jupiter
sextile Pluto, which brings a faith and trust, but
not in an all-or-nothing way, more in a
measured, thought-out way.

This year success will come to those who

operate within a higher morality and a strong
code of ethics. Those with rigid beliefs and
narrow worldviews will be invited to expand
their view to include those people whom they
have formerly viewed as outcasts only worth of
shunning. This is about the spirit of the law,
rather than the letter, and those who have
genuine tolerance, compassion and
acceptance for their fellow humans, and who
feel a real sense of social responsibility, will
benefit this year. Maybe good guys really do
finish first.

This year there may be a spirit of generosity

that transcends commerce. Those who give
with an open, accepting heart will find
themselves receiving—and the more so when
they least expect it. Manifestation is also
benefited this year—”ask and you shall
receive” is the watchword. At the end of this
year’s every prayer should be the phrase, “and
it’s good for everyone” because when you
include the wellbeing of all living things in your
requests via prayer, and you hold ill-will toward
no-one, then all living things conspire to bring
you your heart’s desire. Nothing can stop you
then.

This year is a good one for spiritual

contemplation, retreat and discovery of your
true path. Get into conversation with your
Greater Self; align your puny everyday will with
your eternal being’s Great Will and when you
pray to your Greater Self for guidance and
wisdom, answers will come to you. If at the end
of the year, all human beings feel beloved by
the god of their heart, and if that has led to
generous deeds, these transits will have done
their good work. This year, resolve to love your
fellow humans—you may be able to make
good on that resolution. You may be surprised
at how fulfilling it is. And it pays in spiritual
dividends.

Planetary Stations and Retrogrades

January will be an enthusiastic month full of

energy and forward moving action. If you
thought you were going to get to rest after the
holidays, think again! Remember though that
evolution requires a continual development of
our awareness in the way we think, relate and
expand.

On January 2, Uranus goes direct in the sign of

Aries at 24°. Uranus is the change-maker and
while it was retrograde (during the past few
months), we may have felt the distinct urge to
make those changes but felt as if we were
blocked. But once Uranus goes direct, our urge
for innovation and breakthrough can be
satiated with expediency.

Venus, the planet that shows us how we love

and brings us affairs of the heart, comes into a
conjunction with the Sun on Jan 8th at 18°
Capricorn. The Sun brings us confidence and
creative self-expression and the combination of
the two will result in nothing less than a
“Relationship Rapture Day” so be prepared to
let yourself melt into it. Pluto is right there in
the mix as well, so we get to combine romance
with life force AND intensity. Yum!

On January 16, Jupiter in Scorpio and Pluto in

Capricorn come into an agreeable alignment at
19° in the first of 3 passes. Renewal and
transformation, while sometimes heavy, can
feel more relaxed and perhaps even joyful with
this aspect, and that’s a good thing.

On January 31, eclipse season begins with the

first of three eclipses: a full Lunar Eclipse at
11° Leo. Get ready for the drama! Leo loves to
play and have fun, so if you feel the urge to
use your emotional experience to create and
be, go with it.

Mercury Watch

Mercury proceeds forward (not retrograde, i.e.

backward) at a good clip this month, helping
human projects and plans progress smoothly
and easily. This is a great time for making swift,
easy progress on projects of all kinds that
involve paperwork and communications. Set
writing, contract-signing and paperwork
deadlines this month with confidence. To make
good use of Mercury Direct, look at This
Year’s Mercury Retrograde and how the
cycle of Mercury works.

Seasons

The sign of Capricorn heralds the beginning of

true winter. In the deepest darkness, light
begins to be born. We gather around the
hearth fire and hibernate, conserving our
energy. Capricorn is a Cardinal Earth sign. The
Cardinal driving force of Capricorn takes the
form of ambition, fueled by scarcity and the
ability to accept limitations and turn them into
benefits. Capricorn is the ultimate lemons-into-
lemonade sign. This year Capricorn runs from
December 21 to January 19.

This year Aquariusbegins on January 19. As a

Fixed Air sign, Aquarius is stubborn-minded,
believing that ideals are the most important
thing. Aquarius is humanitarian, the sign under
which community gathers in winter, so that
people may bind together to make it through
the cold, harsh times. The European pagan
festival of Brigid (February 2, adopted by the
Catholic Church as Candlemas) involves the
lighting of candles to remind us that there is
light in the darkness and that the light is now
increasing as the days grow longer.

Lunations

Each lunation (new or full moon) has a feeling-

state that human beings will be prone to under
it, a general mood.

Full Supermoon on January 1, 2018 at 11°

Cancer

January begins with a bang, with a large,

potent Supermoon at 11º Cancer on New
Year’s Day. Full Moons are often emotional, as
they bring a time of increased awareness in
your relationships. In the sign of Cancer, we
may be feeling more moody and nostalgic, and
our focus will be in our subjective world, as well
as the family structures that support us.
Opposing both the Sun and Venus in
Capricorn, this Full Moon is illuminating how
our personal goals and relationships may be at
odds with our subjective emotional needs this
month. It may feel like whatever we accomplish
in the outside world may not be adequate for
supporting and sustaining our inner world.
However, a supportive trine from Neptune in
Pisces to the Moon, also sextiling the Sun and
Venus, softens the harshness of the
opposition. Neptune brings an imaginative
yearning, idealism and fantasy. Maybe the
outside world doesn’t always meet our
emotional needs, but our inner fantasy world
can. Enjoy the constructive escape.

New Moon on January 16, 2018 at 26°

Capricorn
We have a sexy New Moon this month in
Capricorn, since it will be conjunct Venus, to
the precise degree! While the Moon and Venus
are in the sober sign of Capricorn, they are
getting a supercharged sextile from Mars in
sensual Scorpio. Mars, the planet of passion,
will bring lots of romantic fervor and heat to all
three planets—the Sun, Venus and Moon.
Passion in the earthy sign of Capricorn is
deliberate, responsible, and measured. This
isn’t the energy of running away to elope to
Vegas! It’s passion with presence of mind.

This initiatory New Moon could also channel

creative passions as well, since Venus
symbolizes both relationships and art. Creative
endeavors begun now may be rather deliberate
and goal oriented.

Full Supermoon/Lunar Eclipse/Blue Moon

on January 31, 2018 at 11° Leo

It’s a triple whammy as we have a Lunar

Eclipse this month that also happens to involve
a Full Supermoon that also happens to be a
Blue Moon (the second full moon in a month).
This rowdy Full Moon happens at 11° of Leo
and you know what that means? Comedy,
melodrama and some playful theatrics. This is
a Moon prone to acting out emotions and that
will be exacerbated by the eclipse. It’s also
conjunct Ceres in Leo and opposed Juno in
Aquarius. Make sure you’re practicing self-care
in order to preserve your vitality. You may find
that while you want to be recognized for who
you are, that your partnerships need a little
attention too.
January’s Full Moon is sometimes called The
Wolf Moon.
