Lesson Objectives: After this lesson students will be able to demonstrate depth
and shading. Students will be able to show perspective in their artwork and
shadows.
Materials Needed: Legos, pencils, colored pencils, paper, and shading sticks.
Anticipatory Set: Today we are going to learn about perspective. Can anyone
tell me what perspective is? Perspective the art of drawing solid objects on a
two-dimensional surface so they look three-dimensional. Perspective is about
making your objects look proportional. Your objects should have correct height,
width, position and depth. You need to make things as realistic as possible and
that means shading!
Instructional Input: Have each student take a handful of Legos and let them be
free to create whatever they wish. They can make buildings, animals, or even
just leave them separated as long as there is depth in their still life. One they
have decided on a permanent position give each student a piece of paper
and have them sketch their Lego creation. After they have a basic sketch that is
proportional have them shade each Lego according to the light source. Have
students use shading sticks to create a smoother look. Eventually add color with
colored pencils and display the work!
Multiple Intelligences: Interpersonal, Visual/Spatial
Learning Styles: Auditory Learners and Visual Learners
