Meet the Coaches
Ben Reed
Coach Ben Reed is entering his fifth season with the KCC Bruins and his second as the
Bruin Head Coach. He graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 2001, where he
received numerous basketball awards and acknowledgments, including a basketball scholarship
to Western Michigan University and a 3rd place finish in the Mr. Basketball balloting in
the state of Michigan his senior year in high school. While at WMU, Reed’s outstanding
performances earned him MAC Freshman of the Year in 2001-02, contributed to MAC
Conference Championships in 2003-04 and 2004-05, and earned him a place in WMU history
as the 6th all-time leading scorer.

After graduating from WMU with a Bachelor of Arts, Reed went on to play one year in the
IBL for the Battle Creek Knights, winning the 2005 season championship. Looking to expand
his range of experience, Reed spent the next seven years playing professional basketball
overseas for Ovarense Aerosoles and Sport Lisboa Benfica in Portugal. There, he won
a combined five league championships, was co-captain for three years, and a three-time
Portuguese League All-Star. After retiring from professional basketball and returning to the
United States, Coach Reed joined the KCC Bruins for the 2012-2013 basketball season.
Head Coach
Hoping to share the benefits of lessons he has learned as a high school, collegiate, and
professional athlete, Coach Reed emphasizes the importance of cultivating a player’s
performance beyond the court. For Coach Reed, a player’s time at KCC is not just an
opportunity to take that next step in a basketball career, but a privilege that goes hand-in-
hand with the completion of a college degree. His goal is to help guide the transformation
of kids into young men who are not only great basketball players, but are also academically
successful and are in the best position they can be in for a bright future.

Along with coaching the Bruins, Coach Reed also participates in the Battle Creek community
with the Claude Evans Outdoor Summer League, Cereal City Hoopsters, Five-Star Basketball
and provides private basketball lessons to the local youth. He is currently finishing his Master
Degree in Sport Management at Western Michigan University.

Jamie Wynne
Jamie Wynne enters his first year with the Bruin coaching staff. Coach Wynne graduated
from Battle Creek Central High School and attended Kellogg Community College, playing
two years for the Men’s Basketball Team. He went on to achieve a Bachelor’s degree in Sports
Recreation and Communication from Western Michigan University. Jamie remained involved
with Battle Creek’s community and youth; Having worked 15 years at the Battle Creek
Parks and Recreation Department and the Battle Creek Public School System following his
graduation from WMU.

Coach Wynne brings 10 years coaching experience. He started his coaching career in 2006
coaching middle school students for Battle Creek Public Schools. For the past four years he
has coached the Pennfield Junior Varsity Girls Basketball team with increasing success and
winning seasons. This is his first year as the Assistant Coach for KCC Men’s Basketball and he
looks forward to many more seasons to come.
