Why you are interested in this role (100 words max):
I am passionate about solving challenging real-world problems and, owing to my great interest in
maths and physics, I believe I have a particularly strong aptitude for the field of engineering. I have
already been exposed to practical engineering problems such as CAD design because of my older
brother who is studying aerospace engineering. The Large Drives products of Siemens provide world-
class solutions for industry and this would be an invaluable opportunity for me to learn about the
field of engineering, and about the company as a whole, as I am considering a long-term career with
Siemens.
Skills, for example why you consider yourself a good communicator (200 words max):
My mathematical and problem-solving skills are evinced by the fact that I am currently studying
double mathematics at A-level. In addition, I have taken part in the UKMT Senior Maths Challenge
for which I received a Silver Award, qualifying myself for the next stage called the Kangaroo Maths

Challenge. I have strong teamworking and communication skills as I take part in weekly volunteering
activities for the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. Adding to this, I have taken part in expeditions as
part of this programme in which I and my group had to travel in the West Pennine Moors; here I
further utilised my leadership skills to lead the group around the area. Finally, my interest in
languages has allowed me to gain global exposure and develop an appreciation for different
cultures. I completed GCSE German when I was in year 9 and since then I have visited Germany twice
(school trip to Frankfurt and personal trip to Berlin) where I have improved my language skills as well
as my people skills as part of my visits. These international trips have further enhanced my curiosity
and enthusiasm, encouraging me to explore new ideas and horizons.
Education, for example predicted/ actual GCSE grades (200 words max.):
GCSEs (actual grades) – Mathematics (9), English Literature (9), English Language (6), Physics (A*),
Chemistry (A*), Biology (A*), German (A*), Statistics (A*), Computer Science (A*), Physical Education
(A), Drama (A), History (B)
A-levels (predicted grades) – Maths (A), Further Maths (A), Chemistry (A), Physics (A)
Last summer, I took part in a week-long work experience at the Accelerator Science and Technology
Centre at Daresbury Laboratory, in which I had the opportunity to learn about the basic physics
behind linear particle accelerators and synchrotrons, and also to create to design a quadrupole
magnet in a software called “Opera”. The most valuable part of this work experience was the fact
that I challenged myself to learn about a field that I was unfamiliar with (some of content that I
learnt required preliminary understanding of university-level physics).
Apart from this, I have also attended a physics master class at Bolton University, where I worked in a
team to design a cardboard-based bottle rocket, and launching it using pressure from a bicycle
pump, thus allowing it to reach heights in excess of 20 meters. Additionally, I had the opportunity to
learnt about Newton’s law of gravitation and how this relates to the Kepler’s law of planetary
motion
One of my favourite interests includes attending acting classes. For the past 4 years, I have attended
a local dance and drama school called “Dawson’s Academy of Dance and Stage” where I was even
awarded an acting award for a monologue that I performed. Currently, I am attending acting lessons
at Bolton Octagon Theater where my activities involve working with the class as a group in order to
rehearse performances which are present these to parents at the end of each term.
In addition to this, I am currently taking part in the Gold Duke of Edinburgh, and spend at least one
hour every week at the gym, attending acting classes, and most recently, mentoring A Level Maths
students - as a result of this, I have greatly improved my time management, self-discipline and
proactivity. While doing my bronze Bronze Duke of Edinburgh at school, I also volunteered to help at
the local gym, where I did activities such as performing simple lifeguard duties and helping out at the
reception.
