Affiliation to SADTA
An Affiliate is a dance professional who joins a professional association for the
purpose of obtaining…
1. A teachers qualification
5. Be internationally recognized
2. Fill in Affiliation application form and send to the SADTA Branch in your
province (see page 14)

4. Please note: This is not a qualification and you may not advertise
that you are an Affiliate or a Member of the SADTA.
Refresher Course
Once Qualified it is VITAL to attend the Training course annually or every two
years to keep abreast of new developments in dance and in the syllabus.
Dance is a living and breathing art form and changes and development are what
make us so versatile and unstoppable. Don’t be left behind. Keep yourself
updated and in the know!!!! Refresher courses are run at a minimal cost each
year. Contact the office for more details. You may only attend a refresher course
for the grade that you currently hold a qualification.
Student Qualification
Procedure as follows:
1. Affiliate to the SADTA Branch in your province.
2. Attend the Dance Diploma day (not applicable to candidates who have
completed a Freestyle Blue Riband medal test )

3. Pass the Dance Diploma Exam ( not applicable to candidates who have
completed a Blue Riband medal test)
5. Pass all written exams (please see page 13 regarding failing) Candidate
may not do Practical exam until all written exams have been passed.
8. Pay Exam fee (contact office for cost).Proof of payment must accompany
exam application.
10. May put medalists through up to and including Bronze Bar grade only.
11. May Advertise as a Student Teacher of The Freestyle Faculty of the
SADTA

2. Only jazz shoes and dance trainers allowed for practical demonstrations
3. of Freestyle; Slowdance and Rock n’ Roll
The correct hustle shoes to be worn for practical demonstrations
- Hair as for medal test
- Lady: Stretch dance wear and tights to be worn.
- Men: Lycra shirt and Latin pants or bootleg trousers
- Skirts required for Rock ’n Roll/Hustle and Slowdance

Student Freestyle
- Pre-Badge/Badge 1/Badge 2 / Badge 3
(Demonstrate each grade as an exam routine)
- Pre-Bronze Freestyle demonstrate entire syllabus in routine
- Bronze Bar Freestyle demonstrate entire syllabus in routine
- Beginner/Novice grade competitive routine (min 8 phrases)
9. Student Slowdance
- Badge 3 - Pre-Bronze - Bronze Bar
- Beginner/Novice grade competitive routine (min 4 phrases)
11. Oral
Theory of all Student techniques, principles and basic figures in all styles.
- Theory of Dances for all styles incorporating F/S ,Rock n’ Roll,
Slowdance and Hustle up to and including Bronze Bar

- Apply in writing/ via e-mail to SADTA Head office stating grade
required, and date you would like to do your current exam.
- Fax through proof of payment of practical exam with application. -

Associate Exam
Procedure as follows:

2. Candidate needs to hold a Student Teachers Qualification or
Candidate needs to be a South African Champ Title Holder or Finalist or
candidate must have completed a Freestyle Blue Riband medal test .
(Please note: due to the high level of technical knowledge required for this
grade it is advisable to first complete a Student Teacher exam).
4. Need to Pass the Dance Diploma exam (not applicable to candidates who
have completed a Freestyle Blue Riband medal test or currently hold a
Freestyle Student Qualification)
6. Pass all written exams (please see page 13 regarding failing) Candidate
May not do Practical exam until all written exams have been passed and
assignments handed in by due date.
8. Send in completed Exam Application form to SADTA office (page 17) with
proof of deposit attached.
10. May adjudicate all grades at Festival Competitions and up to Rising Star
in Championship Competitions.
11. May put medalists through up to and including Silver grade only.
12. May Advertise as an Associate Teacher of The Freestyle Faculty of the
SADTA

7. Associate Hustle
- Bronze 4 count (man & lady)
- Silver bar & Silver 3 count (man & lady)
- Intermediate competition routine (min of 6 phrases )
8. Oral
- Theory of all Student and Associate techniques, principles and basic
figures in all styles.
- Theory of Dances for all styles up to and including Silver.
