Accountability Pillar Survey

Each year Alberta Education surveys students in Grades 4, 7 and 10, their parents
and all teachers within a school.

The purpose of the survey is to:

§ Provide feedback to Alberta Education on students’, teachers’, and

parents'/guardians' opinions about their school, their school work and the
opportunities their school provides.
§ Provide important information on the quality of education students are
receiving.
§ The results are:
§ used by schools, school authorities and government to see what’s
working and what needs to be improved; and
§ shared with the whole community.

Student and teacher surveys will occur at school. Parent surveys are mailed to
parents and can be mailed directly back to Alberta Education or returned to the
school for us to forward along.

We will be emailing all Grade 4 parents to encourage them to complete the survey.

Classroom Improvement Fund (CIF)

In October we let you know that our teachers would be writing proposals to access
CIF money. Proposals for the fund could be wide ranging with the broad purpose of,
“improving the classroom experience for children.” Our teachers write great
proposals and are clearly focused on what we need as a school. The following
proposals were accepted and we’ve included some examples of what the money has
purchased (or will during this school year).

Technology ($35000)

• A class set of ipads and charging cart

o Students can access information, create new knowledge to share,
engage in targeted skill and process based applications
• A class set of mini-robots
o Students can engage in problem solving and basic coding
Math Manipulatives ($6000)

• Support our School Development Plan goal of improving students procedural

understanding in math
• Classrooms will have the materials they need all the time and some materials
will support the range of abilities present in every classroom

Special Needs Equipment (7000)

• Materials to help students with physical, emotional and cognitive challenges

remain in class, access materials at their level and address physical
development goals (Fine Motor, Gross Motor, Speech/Language)

Literacy Materials ($5500)

• Reading material that is at the right level and interesting to the wide range of
students within every classroom

We are pleased that each successful proposal will have impacts across our K-4
school. The CIF also represents a value of materials that would take a school several
years to accumulate through regular school-based budgets. CIF also allows the
school to direct other funds to school areas such as PE, Music, Art and the Learning
Commons collection.

Winter Activity Day – January 25

Our Winter Activity Day will be during the afternoon on January 25th. The activities
will be staff organized and supervised. It is “weather permitting” and easy to
postpone if needed.

Start Smart Stay Safe (S4)

Grade teams are exploring possibilities to use our new S4 resources including a
member of the Calgary Police Service. Some possibilities will be grade specific while
others could be school wide.
