San Diego Fine Art Society Announces First Annual Art Awards Winners

San Diego Fine Art Society (SDFAS) announced the winners of the First Annual Art
Awards on Opening Night of ART SAN DIEGO Contemporary Art Fair at the Hilton Sa
n Diego Bayfront.

ontemporary Art Fair at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront. The First Annual Art Awar
ds are a celebration of select individuals, exhibitions, and projects that have
made a significant impact on the field of contemporary art during the past year.
The winners are…
• Exhibition of the Year Museum: Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego – “Tara Donovan”
• Exhibition of the Year Gallery: Athenaeum Music & Art Library – “John Henry” by David
Adey
• Patron of the Year: Ian Mausner, Board of the New Children’s Museum
• Artist of the Year: Susy Bielak
• People s Choice: Matt D Arrigo - ARTS: A Reason to Survive
“San Diego is in the midst of a renaissance and by being here tonight, we are all
part of that transformation,” said April Game, founding executive direction of SDF
AS. “It is our honor to be the Charity Partner of ART SAN DIEGO Contemporary Art F
air.”
April added: “Our mission is to strengthen the pulse of the art community through
education and collaboration. There is no better way to do that than by shining a
light on the good work being done by our colleagues and to raise awareness and
appreciation for the work they do.”
Nominees for each category included:
Exhibition of the Year: Museum of Contemporary Art Downtown – “Tara Donovan”; San Dieg
o Museum of Art – “Richard Avedon: Portraits of Power”; and Museum of “Photographic Arts
- Picturing the Process: the Photograph as Witness”
Exhibition of the Year – Gallery: Athenaeum Music & Art Library – “John Henry” by David
Adey; R.B. Stevenson Gallery – “Charles Arnoldi – Recent Work”; and Subtext Gallery – “Read
. Fire. Aim.” by Shawn Wolfe
New Artist of the Year: Greg Brotherton; Susy Bielak; and Shinpei Takeda
Patron of the Year: Ian Mausner - for his work on the board of the New Children
s Museum; Ann Berchtold - ART SAN DIEGO; and Steven Churchill - Art of Photograp
hy Show
People s Choice: Constance White - San Diego County Regional Airport Authority;

SDFAS will also host Launch Pad, an exclusive reception to launch graduating art
ist Duke Windsor, of the Artist Mentor Program, into the next phase of his caree
r on Saturday, September 4, 2010 at Art San Diego.

rt community through education and collaboration. The funds raised at this event
will support the Artist Mentor Program and other exciting programs offered by t
he organization, such as ArtPulseTV (www.artpulse.tv) a new online media outlet
committed to exposing San Diego’s rich arts and culture with in-depth interviews a
nd fresh content every week and ArtPulse:Mobile, a new iPhone App that gives San
Diegans and visitors unparalleled access to San Diego’s art and culture scene. Th
is Gallery Positioning System will assist people with locating art galleries and
museums throughout San Diego County with details on the latest events.

munity, helping San Diego to reach its potential as a top arts destination in th
