CONTRACT Nº 60/OBR/DEN/2001 - The Rehabilitation of the Road EN242 between


Litunde and the Cabo Delgado Border and The Construction of a Reinforced Concrete
Bridge across the Luambala River in the Niassa Province of Mozambique.

SUBJECT: JOB DESCRIPTION

In terms of BKS policy your responsibilities on this contract need to be defined and I therefore
wish to confirm your job description as set out below. Please acknowledge receipt of this
memorandum by signing the attached copy and returning it for filing.

POSITION: Inspector of Works. You will take responsibility for the Eastern
section of the road from Revia camp site to Ruaca and the overhead
management of the Revia laboratory.

REPORTING TO: Reporting to A.R.E.’s on any general QA issue and to R.E. on


specific issues.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The RE has, in terms of the provisions of the Contract, delegated the
following responsibilities to you:

for Inspection. In addition, auditing of testing
procedures of the Revia combined laboratory.

The Contractor has been informed accordingly.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Ensure that laboratory testing complies with Standard Methods of
testing of Materials.
2. Draw up and maintain a progress bar chart.
3. Initiate Centre Line verification and Borrow Pit testing. The
resources will be provided by Rumdel and the testing shall be
done in the combined laboratory.

4. Advise on suitability of materials and specification compliance.


5. Arrange for off-site testing of materials for compliance with SABS,
BS or other specification requirements not executable on Site.
6. Inspect the execution of the Works, assess compliance with
specification requirements and advise the R.E. or A.R.E. This
includes the following operations:
a. Clearing and grubbing
b. Formation construction
c. Roadbed preparation and compaction
d. SSG
e. Sub base
f. Base
g. Stabilization
h. Surfacing
i. Priming
j. On Site concrete pre-cast operations
k. All concrete works
l. Application rates
7. Ensure that the “cover” requirement specified on the typical cross
section drawings and in Clause 3302(b) of SATCC is adhered to.
The structural integrity of the road depends on the above and this
must be controlled on a continuous basis.
8. In general, to apply the Engineer’s QA plan to all materials and
related issues.
9. Assist the A.R.E with preparation of As Built test results for
inclusion in the Monthly Progress Report, which has to be
submitted on the 5th of each month.
10. Full responsibility for As Built materials sheets. These must be
updated on a continuous basis and submitted to the ARE before
the last working day of each month.
11. You are responsible for the controling of laboratory equipment by
updating the inventory, which will revert to ANE after completion
of the Contract.
12. Ensure that equipment is calibrated at the required intervals,
obtain Calibration Certificates and file in your system.
13. Administer the laboratory filing system as part of the master filing
system.
