Lesson aims: - to encourage SS to speak and answer simple questions;


- to help SS extract information from a written text;
- to encourage SS to cooperate in pair work;
- to encourage SS to communicate freely and spontaneously during the activities.

Objectives:
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
• name different types of food;
• classify the food;
• tell the difference between “there is” and “there are”
• feel more positive and confident when speaking English.

Didactic strategy:

 Didactic methods: conversation, explanation.


 Interactions: whole class, pair work, individual work.
 Visual and audio aids: blackboard, chalk, book, notebooks.

PROCEDURE:
Activity 1 – Warm up
T greets the students, asks for the attendance and organizes the class. T plays the song
“Healthy food song”. SS read the lyrics from the book and start singing.
Time: 5 minutes

Activity 2 - Introducing the topic and explaining the objectives
T tells the SS that today they will talk about food, healthy and junk food, learn the
differences between “there is” and “there are” and learn how to have a conversation in a
restaurant.
Time: 3 minutes

Activity 3 – Grammar
T asks the SS to take a look at page 57 and explains to them the difference between
“there is” and “there are”. T makes the connection with the verb “to be”. T asks SS to make
sentences using these words.
Time: 7 minutes

Activity 4 – Introducing new vocabulary
T asks the SS if they know the difference between healthy food and junk food. T
translates the SS the words and asks them to classify some food words based on this difference.
Then, T gives the SS a worksheet they will have to complete with a pyramid of food. T also
explains the SS how the food is classified based on the time of the day (breakfast, lunch,
dinner).
Time: 15 minutes

Activity 5 – Practice
In pairs, SS have to classify some words related to food (Exercise 2, page 57). T tells the
SS how much time they have. When the time is almost over, T announces them: “One more
minute left”. T and the SS correct the answers.

Activity 6 – Reading
T tells the SS that now they will have a role play. T names randomly three SS to read the
text. Then, T and the SS translate the text. T writes on the blackboard the new words and SS
write in their notebooks.
Time: 8 minutes

Activity 7 – Feed-back
T asks the SS, individually, to answer the questions from the book. T names after some
SS to answer the questions.
Time: 5 minutes
