1)Nanoscience:As we can deduce from the word nano, which is equivelent of 10-9 meters,

nanoscience is the study of systems in the nanoscale.(1-100nm).Since it is defined as

“investigating small” nanoscience is a collection of some other science branches such as
physics, chemistry and biology which also deals with atoms and molecules.

Nanotechnology: is the engineering part of the nanoscale systems such as molecules and
DNA’s.Nanotechnology uses the knowledge of nanoscience to focus properties such as
conductivity and strength of the materials.Opposite of the nanoscience, which is
theoretical, nanotechnology is applied. Difference is almost same as science vs technology.

2)Since nanoscience allowed us to work at atomic level,we can create new structures as
wanted since with using nanotechnology,it is possible to improve physical and chemical
abilites of the sturctures. When you have control over such abilites, one can design
lighter, smaller and more efficent materials which is already revolutionizing the
industry.Variety examples can be given. For example in medicine, nanobiorobots are being
used which allow surgeons to reach which cannot be reached before.Nanoelectronics already
began revolutionizing information technology with using smaller but efficient materials so
that in a small scale,a huge amount data can be stored. So it seems to be next industrial
revolution rather than just making things smaller since it affects all such areas conserning
engineering applications .

3)Nanoscience is cross-disciplinary area of science which containts physics, chemistry, biology

and material science. Solid theoretical background of nanoscience comes from physics
especially from quantum mechanics.Ability to create materials which is smaller, lighter or
even stronger comes from the chemistry and material science.Creating and designing such
nanostructures requires knowledge from computer science and material science so it is
reasonable to say that nanoscience is interdisciplinary.

4)Quantum Dot: Quantum dots are basically semiconductors whose size differs between 1-
3nm.It is a nanoparticle and can be made from silicon or any kind of semiconductor.Quantum
dots are very important because when electricity(or light) is applied to them, they emit light in
some spesific frequencies.Solar cell is one important application of quantum dots. Usual solar
cells generates one electron wheras a quantum dot can generate two electrons which increases
the efficiency of the cell.

Nanosheets:They are 2D nanostructures with a general scale of 5nm-100nm.One of the most

important example of it is graphene, the thinnest known material so far.Nanosheets are very
important for transistors since for example using silicon nanosheet makes transistors smaller
and smaller(5nm).

Magnetoelastic filaments: Magnetoelastic filaments are 1D nanostructure and they have both
elastic and magnetic properties which is very important for MRI and other health related
technologies such as drug delivery and monitoring it.

Nanomesh: A fairly new discovered nanostructure, nanomesh is an inorganic 2D materials

which is very similar to graphene. One of the most crucial feature of nanomesh is, it is
temperature resistant which doesn’t decompose till 1275K which makes them very usable in a
wide range of environmental events.

Nano flake:It is a nanomaterial mostly used in solar energy. Nanoscientists think that it reduce
the cost of solar energy and it may provide more energy due to its plate-like form.
