Class Grade Level: 9th Grade

Class Content: Computer Applications

Standard: Career and Technical Education Tennessee State Standard

8.1 Differentiate between the functions and terminology of presentation software
8.3 - Design, create, and present a multimedia presentation to a specific audience. (CLE 3103.5.2)

Real Classroom Demographics: 22 students: 11 females, 11 males: 20 students are African American, 19
students are on free and/or reduced lunch, 90% of the students are visual learners.

ELL and IEP Accommodations/Modifications: My student that has an IEP struggles with ADHD. He will be
allowed extra time to work on his PowerPoint. The class as a whole loves PowerPoint, so this student doesn’t
necessarily struggle with the understanding directions. He is very easily distracted and he easily gets off task.
Therefore, it takes more time for him to finish. He sits close to my desk, so when I see him wondering off, it is
easy for me to bring him back to his assignment. He will be allowed to finish the assignment with his inclusion
teacher during his advisory period. The student that is an ELL will be allowed to work with a partner. Another
Latino has been placed in all of his classes as a translator because the ELL student speaks no English. He is a
very smart young man once the translator explains the assignment to him. My ELL student will always be
allowed to work with his partner, and he is also allowed more time if needed.

Questions on the Grading Form:

1. What will the students be doing that you will be observing? All of the students will be using what they
have learned when creating their “All About Me” PowerPoint.
2. Why is observation the best way to assess the students? Observation is best to assess the students
because it shows me whether or not they understand the terminology of PowerPoint. It also shows me
whether or not they have been paying attention to my PowerPoint presentation examples that I have showed
them. Observation helps me understand whether or not I am doing a good job teaching PowerPoint.
3. How will they be observed and how will you conduct the observations? The students will be working
individually on their PowerPoint. I will walk around to monitor their progress. I will ask them how to do
something, such as “add a new slide design”, or “apply a different slide transition to each slide”. If the student
shows me that they are able to do those things, then they understand the terminology of PowerPoint, and
also how to create one.

4. Who will be observing and who will be observed? I will be doing the observing of all students. The
assignment will more than likely run take a total of two full class periods.
5. When will the students be observed? After I give the directions of the assignment and I show them a
brief example, the students will be then be able to being their own PowerPoint. The students will be observed
only when they are using the functions of PowerPoint, such as slide layouts, transitions, animations, video,
audio, and cropping.
6. Where will you observe? I will observe the students in my classroom.
7. What materials will the students have and what materials will you have? The students
will be allowed to use their textbooks, iPads, and they will need a desktop computer. I will have my
checklist and clip board.
