Digital Storytelling: Math Story

Directions: You are going to create a story using any math concept we learned this
year in your story. Then you are going to use one of the following; storybird (online), or
powtoon (online) to create your story. Your story must have a purpose and a specific
math concept being used. You will be presenting your story in class on the final due
date.
Standards:
● Math CCS : Depends on the grade and topic
○ http://www.corestandards.org/Math/Content/7/EE/
○ CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.7.EE.B.3: Solve multi-step real-life and
mathematical problems posed with positive and negative rational numbers
in any form (whole numbers, fractions, and decimals), using tools
strategically. Apply properties of operations to calculate with numbers in
any form.
■ This will be evident in the teacher model.
● Math Practices:

○ CCSS.MATH.PRACTICE.MP2: Reason abstractly and quantitatively.

Mathematically proficient students make sense of quantities and their
relationships in problem situations.
■ This will be evident when students use their story to create a real
world problem with a math topic learned this year.

○ CCSS.MATH.PRACTICE.MP4: Model with mathematics. Mathematically

proficient students can apply the mathematics they know to solve
problems arising in everyday life, society, and the workplace.
■ This will be evident when students use their story to solve a real
world problem using a topic covered in class.
● ISTE Standards for Students:
○ Empowered Learner: Students leverage technology to take an active role
in choosing, achieving and demonstrating competency in their learning
goals, informed by the learning sciences.
■ This will be evident when students create their own story and
choose the form of technology they want to use.
○ Knowledge Constructor: Students critically curate a variety of resources
using digital tools to construct knowledge, produced creative artifacts and
make meaningful learning experiences for themselves and others.
■ This will be evident when students choose the form of technology
they want to use.
