RED-P

RURAL EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

Title of the project : RED-P (Rural Education Development Program)
===========================================================

Introduction

India is set to become youngest country by 2020. We would be having largest workforce under 35
years of age. This demographic dividend can help the country to become a global power. But
somewhere there is a mismatch between the skills required and skills available.Majority of the
population still live in rural areas of the country as it is believed that the level of school education
decides their future. The fact is, the quality of education level in rural areas is still way below the
level required. Lack of resources, proper facilities, proper attention are a few of many reasons
behind this problem. One of the main issue, which is being neglected, is the disruptive behavior
problems which are the most prevalent mental health problems of childhood and predict serious
negative outcomes, including delinquency, school failure, and substance abuse. The current
education system fails to address such issues. Schools in rural areas face some disadvantages when
compared to urban areas, such as lower per-pupil school expenditures, a narrower curriculum, and
less well-trained teachers.

Objective of the Project:

The objective of the project is the development of the educational system in Pingri Village (Distt.
Mathura) by working on behavioral, attitudinal and technical issues of school students with
professional resource support from the institute.

The proposed project would address one the major problems of rural areas i.e. education. The
project would also help in the Digital India Campaign.

Identified rural area and related problems

Pingri Village of Mathura District has been identified as the area is highly underdeveloped. It due
to poor education services. The present education system fails to understand child psychology and
guide them accordingly. Children of the village are less interested in education and often get
involved in illegal activities and crimes such as gambling and alcoholism. This results into higher
drop out ratio and fails to motivate passing out students for higher studies. This result into high
unemployment rate. The system also lacks sufficient resources due to which Computer, which has
nowadays become a toy for children of urban areas, is still an unknown device for schools in the
village. The problem works as the main hurdle in achieving the Government’s Digital India dream.
Low level of education and few skills force the majority of the workforce to work in unorganized,
insecure employment. Moreover, Inadequate education regarding health and nutritional needs
often results in under-nutrition or malnutrition among the villagers.

Proposed Model for RED-P

The project RED-P (Rural Education Development Program) aims to address the behavioral as
well as technical aspects of the children. The project would work with two parallel sessions.

Behavioral Session : Under this session, various behavioral modules would be developed to
understand the behavioral patterns of a child, finding the root cause behind that and further help
him/her to improve. On every Saturday, through these modules, their behavioral issues would be
addressed.

Various sessions would be planned to understand basic pshycology of the students, understanding
the day-to-day issues at home and its impact on their behavior, solving the issues using behavioral
techniques and training. The module would utilize various tools, mentioned below, for this.

• Word association test

• Introductory activity

• Storytelling session

• Management game

• Confidence building class

Technical Module: In current scenario, knowledge of computer skills is considered as a

prerequisite for any higher education. But children from rural areas are not able to get this because
of lack of resources.

A dedicated technical lab would be installed in the institute premises where regular training will be
given to the children from rural areas. The technical module would provide hands-on computer
operations( including internet surfing, printing etc. ), photoshoots and editing, preparation of
educational videos and scriptwriting .

In the technical sessions apart from imparting basic computer skills, students will be trained for
video shooting, editing , developing educational videos for other students.

Expected outcomes:
The project aims to encourage children of the village towards education by addressing the
behavioral and attitudinal issues. Overall performance would also be expected to improve once the
children get proper guidance from the experts in psychology and management field. Students
would also be equipped with computer knowledge which would not only help them to compete
with students in urban areas but also help them in their higher education. The project would also
promote the Digital India movment and motivate the people of the village for cashless
transactions.s
