Chapter I
INTRODUCTION

Chapter one is divided into four parts; (1) the Background of the Study; (2) the Statement of
the Problem; (3) the Conceptual Framework; (4) the Significance of the Study; and (5) the Scope
and Delimitations of the Study.

Part one, the Background of the Study, discusses the overall idea of the research study.
Part two, the Statement of the Problem, presents the general statement of the whole problem
followed by the specific questions or sub-problems and identities the main and specific research
question.
Part three, the Conceptual Framework, shows the dependent and independent variables in the
study.
Part four, the Significance of the Study, cites the importance and the benefits that will be
derived from the results of the study and the persons that will also benefit from the study.
Part five, the Scope and Delimitations of the Study, sets the precise boundaries of the problem
area and other relevant information on defining the coverage of the research.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The students’ misbehavior is one of the most troubling and most alarming scenario in
education today. Day by day, discipline problems, morality issues and "gangsterism" cases are
increasing. Predictably, the misbehavior is shown in ways such as vandalism, hostility, apathy, and
rebellion creating even greater problems. Consequently, schools are not safe anymore for the
students and there are approximately misbehavior problems that often occur in the schools every
single day like cheating in school, threatening other students, skipping classes, coming to school
late, stealing, making noise, committing vandalism, cheating in class, deceiving others during
games and even showing disrespect to school personnel.
In the literature, different terms have been used to describe the problematic behaviors of
students. For instance, Stewart et al. referred student misconduct to disciplinary violations in
school, for instance, tardiness, vandalism, stealing,
and drinking on campus. When there are explicit rules and regulations in school and
classroom, violation of these is apparently a "misbehavior or misconduct on discipline problem".

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This research is focused on determining the misbehavior committed by students in school and
its impact on their performance.

Specifically,it sought answers to the following question:

1.What are the usual misbehavior committed by students inside the classroom?

2.How do these misbehavior affect their performance?

3.What are the possible ways in treating these misbehavior of students?

CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

THE SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

This research study was conducted in Malay National High School during the 1st semester .
For the school Yr. 2017-2018 to examine misbehavior from the students perspective, it focused on
students explanation of their school misbehavior and effective means to deal with student
misbehavior. However, it can be argued that any meaningful intervention would not be possible if
students conception and definition of classroom misbehavior are not throughly examined before
the intervention.
Thus, the present study attempted to examine classroom misbehavior from the student points
of views, and to understand what are the most common disruption and unacceptable misbehavior
in Malay National High school.
