Development Officer - Africa

Cricket South Africa (CSA) is the national governing body for the sport of cricket in South Africa and
administers all aspects of South African cricket, and where appropriate on the continent of Africa.

The Development Programme of CSA and the International Cricket Council (ICC) which is the global
governing body for the sport of cricket, has specific strategic objectives aimed at the sustainable
development and strengthening of the sport of cricket globally.

A new position for a Development Officer - Africa has become available. The successful candidate will be
responsible for supporting the growth of cricket in Africa, in partnership with ICC Members in Africa and
playing a leading role in the implementation of ICC Mass Participation and Social Cricket programmes as
well as Training and Education programmes. In addition, will be involved in managing the ICC relationship
with the CSA Cricket Services department and coordinating the CSA’s support of agreed game development
areas.

The role will report to the Development Manager - Africa. Being in the sport of cricket, the role requires the
ability and willingness to travel, work long hours, over weekends and public holidays where necessary.

The more important criteria for the appointment is set out below and although not exhaustive, would serve as
a guideline in assessing a prospective candidate:

Key responsibilities:
Key performance areas include but are not limited to the following:
1) Lead on the implementation of ICC Mass Participation and Social Cricket programmes in Africa:
a) Work with identified Member countries to plan effective programmes which support their long term
strategic objectives;
b) Support Member countries in creating an infrastructure to ensure high quality delivery of
programmes, including an effective workforce;
c) Assist Member countries in building an effective training and education workforce to increase the
quality and quantity of coaches and umpires; and
d) Share best practice, initiatives and resources around Mass Participation, Training and Education.
2) Deliver agreed support to Accelerated Growth Countries in Africa, with a game development focus:
a) Guide, mentor and share resource across game development components; and
b) Facilitate the connection between ICC Associate Members and ICC Full Members in Africa.
3) Provide desktop support to all ICC Members in Africa on game and market development:
a) Share best practice, initiatives and resources.

4) Lead the establishment of effective partnerships between ICC, CSA and Zimbabwe Cricket around Mass
Participation, Training and Education;
5) Be a strong contributor to the ICC Global Development Team:
a) Connect regularly with counterparts in other locations on global initiatives and sharing of good
practice.
6) Take on additional, global, projects, as required in relation to providing cricket development expertise to
ICC Members; and
7) Perform other reasonable duties as required by CSA, including ad hoc project involvement.

The following skills, qualifications and experience are essential requirements:

1) Diploma / degree in Sports Management or equivalent qualification;


2) Proven expertise in game development with good understanding of wider aspects within the sports
industry;
3) Experience in managing sports participation programmes;
4) Experience in managing coach and / or official education courses;
5) A strong understanding of the game of cricket;
6) Experience in project / programme planning, design and budget management; and
7) Understanding of good governance and administration.

In addition, the following job competencies and attributes would be important:

10) Ability to work under pressure and handle stress; and
11) Passionate about the game of cricket.

Successful candidate would be based at the CSA offices presently situated at 86 5 th Street, Melrose Estate,
Johannesburg.
