Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the
quality of PE and Sport.
Fagley employ a Sports coach who takes PE lessons with each class and sporting
afterschool clubs, which enable us to enter more sports’ competitions and
tournaments.
The school runs the training session for “Little Strikers”, which offers children from
1 - 6 years and their parents a safe and nurturing environment, which encourages all
aspects of mental and physical development through football.
“Let’s get physical” is a group designed for under 5’s to get moving, playing and
exploring in a safe environment using play equipment designed to make you hop, skip,
jump and roll. Parents can work together with their children to enable to child to
become active, confident and happy whilst taking place in physical activity.
The daily mile is encouraged by posters, assemblies and a marking system where
children gain marks on a chart and record if children have completed it. Rewards will
be given in time.
Fit club – 1 hour session to address obese children and those who lack physical
stamina.
Each child from Reception to Year 6 attends Forest School for one morning or
afternoon per week for a term. Whilst attending Forest School, the children walk at
least 3 miles during a session and often as much as 5 miles. The sessions involve lots
of physical activity including traversing steep hills and uneven ground, climbing trees,
play chasing games, building rope bridges, dens, swings and slacklines. These activities
help to develop the children’s stamina, resilience, co-ordination and motor skills.
We aim to continue to promote cycling and walking with our existing services in school
such as a weekly cycling club, parents and children fitness classes and daily
completion of the ‘The Golden Mile’. This activity is for Reception to year 6 and is a
safe, simple and measurable health & physical activity initiative accessible to all age
groups regardless of ability.
In addition to the PE curriculum, Year 5 have a weekly swimming session. Due to the
increase in PE Sports Premium, Year 3 also attend the swimming session to help with
their confidence and ability to swim on top of their usual PE sessions in school.
Cycling is a major part of our school life and recently our Parental Liaison Officer
applied for funding which enabled the school to have a cycle shelter, so that bikes
that the school has obtained are kept on the premises for any child who does not
have their own bike at home.
Children are encouraged to come to school on their bikes and scooters and we have
facilities to lock their bikes up during the day.
Cycling Club This takes place as an after school club. Each child takes part in the
club is awarded with the bike they have used and maintained at a presentation
ceremony attended by their parents. Ian Cullen from Sustrans attended the
presentation and delivered a ‘Bike Doctor’ session to the parents and answered any
question they had in relation to their children and cycling.
Becycling In the last twelve months work has taken place to establish a cycling club
and other health and wellbeing activities in school and the local community to address
issues surrounding mental health, obesity and children accessing outdoor activities.
It is now our priority to expand on these activities to continue to support health and
obesity, attainment levels of children, pride in the local area, criminal activity, and
opportunities for the community to come together.
The school has taken a lead in providing cycling opportunities by making strong
partnership links with British Cycling, Sustrans, City Connect and Bike Ability.
Funding will be £16000 per school + £10 per pupil in years 1-6 and those age 5 in
Reception, as recorded in the January 2017 Census (181 pupils). For our school this is
£17810
This annual amount will be paid in two stages, with £10389 paid in November 2017 and
£7421 paid in May 2018.
How we have spent this Funding
Impact
The social element of attending clubs and competitions is enhanced and competition is
also great for providing outside opportunities to attend clubs elsewhere in the
community and local authority.
Attendance is a major part of school life and children are expected to attend
regularly to extend their learning. To encourage children who have achieved 100%
attendance a draw is made each half term for a new bike. The school provides this
and the cycle is presented to the child in assembly.
Through the government sports funding, we have been able to provide the following
for our children:
The uptake in extracurricular sporting activities has increased and all clubs run
at full capacity. Sports (UK) Ltd and Sainsbury’s have arranged competitions
and festivals. We have achieved gold for two years running (which is unusual
for a one form entry school). Children attending after school clubs with our
Sports Coach, which work up to these competitions. Some of our children have
won awards for both winning and team work.
The school is constantly competing for the high places in all competitions.

playground for all children during all curriculum breaks and lunchtimes in addition to
their usual allotted PE curriculum time. All sports leader equipment is also provided.
The school is aiming to also provide parents with gym equipment to support healthy
lifestyles.
Swimming
“A very large number of after-school clubs, including sports clubs, are enjoyed
by a majority of pupils. All disadvantaged pupils attend at least one of the
clubs. Consequently, pupils’ physical and social education are enhanced”
“The primary school physical education (PE) and sport premium provides pupils
with a very wide range of free after-school sports clubs and access to team
sports and competitions. A sports coach leads the teaching of PE in the
curriculum. Pupils’ fitness is improved as a result”
