Eye Injuries 2 1 2 Welders shall wear head screen with a filtered glass & 1 1 1
ensure there is no damage to the head screen.
The inner screen is to be of Polycarbonate
Glasses are available to prevent ‘arc-eye’ where there are
several welders working in close proximity.
Barriers shall be erected wherever possible to shield the
eyes of personnel working in the vicinity.

Slips, Trips & Falls 2 1 2 Good housekeeping shall be maintained at all times. 1 1 1
Wherever possible cables shall be secured or tied
overhead.
Where cables are routed along the floor they shall be kept
out of access and egress routes.

Burns to the skin 2 2 4 Protective equipment shall be utilised for welding 2 1 2


operations, i.e.; gloves, overalls, head protection (cap or
hood) & boots.
Any burns shall be treated immediately by the site nurse
or CBUK first aider.
Materials shall be marked with the words ‘HOT’ to inform
other personnel of the risks.

Severity (S): 1-minor 1st aid, 2-Minor hospital referral, 3-RIDDOR (over 3 day), 4-Major injury, 5-fatality
Likelihood (L): 0 - Very Remote, 1 - Remote, 2 - Occasional, 3- Probable, 4 – Frequent
Hazard Rating S x L (0-3 = Low, work can 4-7 = Medium, Work needs additional controls, 8 or more = High, Work shall not commence)
