MECORPORATIONPERFORMANCE NOTES
There are certain characteristics of children that endear them to our hearts, One of the
‘most potent of these is their inherent joy and hupefulness. (it really is a shame when
these are sacrificed on the way to adulthood.) This song should be sung with great
hope and joy
The opening introduction should set the stage for the entire song. A nice. steady swing
adds to the attraction. [teach my kids to work the "w""s on “wath, walk. walk” to add
emphasis to the “activity.” ("Let me hear the verb, choristers!”) ‘This same attention
to initial consonants should be employed in each consecutive verse:
m. 31, “sing, sing, sing” m. 47 and “play, piay, play” m. 65. Also, remember to “think
ahead” about how to end each verse with the verb employed in that verse. Teaching
kids to “plan ahead” is a good skill to learn.
‘The repetitive pattems in each verse also allow for consistency in vowel sound and
formation, The “AH” in “Ny” and “ell” and the “O” in “over” happen each verse ~
built in reinforcement of good singing technique.
My choirs have sung this in parts as well as in unison, ft works well both ways. With
a litde encouragement from the teacher, the syncopations can really capture the audience.
Everyone enjoys secing kids having fun, and when they sing well in addition, thal
combination that simply can’t be beat.
