Robotics and Actuators

BACKGROUND
In any automation system the last mile is motion, be it rotary or linear. Several possibilities exist, which
include the use of pneumatics, hydraulics, electric/ servo. The rotary or linear motion can be point to point,
digital, analog. It can be flexible and easily programmable or rigid. It can be very precise, slow or rapid
depending on the application. This seminar introduces different types of actuators available, their
advantages and disadvantages. It also throws light on how one can select the correct actuator as well as the
gripper for holding the component or workpiece.
Keeping this in view, Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers’ Association (IMTMA) is organising one day
seminar on Robotics and Actuators on 14 May 2010 at Gurgaon.

OBJECTIVE
This seminar introduces different types of actuators and robots available, their advantages and
disadvantages. It also throws light on how one can select the correct actuator, robot as well as the gripper
for holding the component or workpiece.

FOCUS AREA
Pheumatic Actuators : Very commonly used final
Ø Grippers : For handling of workpiece the correct
actuating devices for rotary and linear transfer
devices. Their applications and different types
will be discussed
Hydraulic
Ø Actuators : For higher power and
compactness hydraulic actuators are used. Their
types and applications will be discussed
Speed Control Drives :For fast & accurate control
Ø automation calls for use of Cartesion & Scara
of motor speed VFD and servo systems are used.
This session will cover application of VFD & servo
not only for speed control but for energy
efficiency.
Ø
selection & design of grippers is necessary, for
example, pneumatic, electric or tactile grippers.
Various selection criteria & options will be
discussed.
Cartesian & Scara Robots.
Ø
High speed pick & place, handling & dispensing
Ø
Robots as a low cost option. Their feasibility and
application will be discussed
Articulated
Ø Robots.For complex material
handling & cellular manufacturing articulate
robots are increasingly being used. Selection
criteria & application will be discussed.

REGISTRATION
Registration charges will be Rs. 3500/- per participant for Large and Medium Companies and Rs. 3000/- per participant
for SSI Companies and IMTMA Members (10.3% of service tax extra) which includes course material, Lunch &
Coffee/Tea. Registrations will be accepted on 'First come First’ basis. Companies interested in participation are
requested to return the attached 'Reply Form' along with a Demand Draft/at par payable Cheque in favour of 'Indian
Machine Tool Manufacturers' Association' payable at Gurgaon to the address as mentioned in the reply form.
