 The schema operations master is not available. The domain controller that currently holds the schema
master role is offline or network connectivity between you and the schema master is inoperable.




 Restore the availability of the schema master by fixing the network connectivity problem or by
transferring or seizing the schema master role.

schema master role; Seize the schema master role

 The user trying to modify the schema does not belong to the Schema Admins group.




 Add the correct user account to the Schema Admins group.


 Add a member to the Schema Admins group

 There are syntax errors in the LDAP import format (LDIF) script.




 Debug and fix the LDIF script then try the modification again.

 The domain controller holding the schema master role is running Windows 2000 and has not been enabled
for schema changes.




 Enable schema changes on the domain controller. For more information, see Enable schema changes on

 The attributes cannot be associated with a class because the schema cache has not been updated.




 Ensure that the schema cache is updated after an attribute is added before attempting to add the
attribute to a class. For more information, see Reload the schema.

 You are attempting to define a class on a domain controller that is not the schema operations master and
the new attribute has not replicated in.




 Always perform schema updates on the schema operations master.
