1/26/2018 Media News Group (dba Digital First Media) Mail - Statement from Riverside County in response to Sheriff's Department news release
And despite claims to the contrary, an optimized schedule used during pilot projects
in the unincorporated areas of Hemet and Lake Elsinore helped reduce wait times
for residents and improve officer safety. At each station, the results were
impressive. Generally speaking, deputies reached community members faster
following 911 calls, and officers received backup faster when facing a dangerous
situation.
The optimized schedule reduced residents’ wait times for priority 1 calls (crimes in
progress) by 43% during the pilot in the Hemet Station and 16% during pilot in the
Lake Elsinore Station. The optimized schedules reduced resident wait times for all
priority types of calls by greater than 20%, and reduced the waiting time on weekend
calls by as much as 65% at peak times.
Based upon the initial success in these two areas, cities with a law enforcement
contract with the Sheriff have expressed interest in testing the optimized schedule,
with an eye toward reducing response time and improving officer safety in their
communities.
