• Enter or Exit a SKETCH:
Select a plane (xy, yz, zx) > Sketch icon to Exit:
or Start > Mechanical Design > Sketcher
!
• Change CATIA UNITS:
Tools menu > Options > Parameters & Measures > Units > Length
!
• Using the mouse buttons in CATIA:
1 - Select edit objects
2 - Manipulate objects (drag)
3 - Display contextual menu
2 3 - Rotate
2 click 3 - zoom
!
• Normal View Point:
When the screen is not parallel to the plane of sketch.
!
• Unclosed profile:
When a sketch end points have a distance, which means they’re not closed.
You can verify your sketch using a sketch analysis going to:Tools > Sketch
Analysis > Sketch Analysis Window.
!
• CATIA colors:
orange - active white - no measure green - defined
purple - overconstrainted red - error
• Constraint:
A dimension in CATIA is called a constraint.
You can constraint or auto-constraint

SOLID MODELLING
!
PAD
Used to create extrusions. The previously created sketch is assigned a
thickness.
!
MULTI-PAD
Used to create more than 1 extrusion in one command. You may need to use
break command to define extrusion zones.
!
ASSIGN MATERIAL
Apply Material > Select material > Drag and release on part body > Shading with
material
!
POCKET
Used to remove material. You may need to use Quick Trim, Offset.
!
MULTI-POCKET
Used to remove material more than once using one sketch.
!
EDGE FILLET
Smooth transitional surfaces between two adjacent faces.
!
SHAFT
Used to create solids of revolutions. You may need to use Axis.
!
GROOVE
Used to cut material by a revolution. You may need to use Axis.
!
HOLE

!
DRAFT
Assign angle to a surface. Pulling direction: assigns angle direction.
Natural element: reference on which angle is defined (remains unchanged).
!
SHELL
Removes faces and assign thickness to the rest of them.
!
STIFFENER
Assign thickness to an open profile. You may need to use a Plane.
!
MIRROR (3D)
Select the planar face or plane that will be the plane of symmetry, and
the feature will be mirrored about the selected face.
