1. Gcn~ral.-This Instruction details the procedure NOTE:-When a Clock No. 36 or No. 46 is

2. Procedure
(a) Ensure that the clock is correctly fixed.
Renew fixings if necessary.
(li) Dust the case, and clean the glass.
(c) Clean all contacts.
(d) Check all electrical conncxio·ns. Resolder or
stopped the ' Hipp ' toggle should hang just clear
of the agate. Adjust the tqggle accordingly.
(m) When a Clock No. 36 is stopped check that
the one-second operating cams are 40-50 mils from
their lever springs and, if neces-sary, adjust
accordingly.
(n) Check:-
(i) that each driving pawl turn$ its associated
count wheel, so that the detent falls behind the-

(/)Ensure that contact spri·n gs are straight
against their buffer springs or stops; and check
the alignment of the contacts.
(g) Clieck that all contact separations (sprinm;
normal) are 10 mils minimum.
(h) Check that lever sprin.gs are tensioned
against U.1eir buffer .springs or st9ps with .a pressure
'
of 5 to 8 gm, measured at the tip; adjust as
necessary.
(j) Check that all 'n1ake' springs have pressures
of 15 to 20 gm against their buffer springs (measured
at the tip); adjust as necessary.
(le) Check that spriqgs lift from t.l1eir buffers·
40 mils minimum to oO mils maximum.
(/) Examine the 'Hi-pp ' toggle and agate. If the
• toggle does not swjng freely, dismantle, clean,
lubricate (see par. 3) and reassemble. If these
parts are worn in a Clock No. 36, change the clock.
In a Clock No. 46~ requis-ition th.e required parts
and repair the clock. See MfSCELLANEO{J'S,
Tim~, B 5302 and U 5303.

(o) Check all contacts for sparking. If observed,
check ·Spark-quench components and wiring.
(p) Check that the· correcting pulses to the
pendulum drive magn~t are regular and that the
spacing between successive pulses is not less than
1() seconds for a Clock No. 36 and 8 seconds for a
Clock No. 46. If the ·s pacing is less than these
values check that the drive magnet current is
between_ 450- 500 mA, and then cheek the ' Hipp ~
device as. described in (1). Ensure that the count
wheels arc free, if not lubricate theic pivots as
described in par. 3.
3. Lubrication.- N()rmally master cl()cks should
not require lubrication. To facilitate . operation,
however, one drop. of Wakefield's Superfine 'Oilit'
(to be purchased IocaUy) may be applied to the pivots
of count wheels and to the ' Hipp ' toggle.
