Water
Forms
Groundwater

Springs- water that comes from underground and returns to the surface.
Some springs are hot. Water from hot springs passes through the cracks
on earth where there are hot rocks. Hot springs are also good for
therapy.

Hidden Valley, Spring Resort at Calauan, Laguna

Waterfalls- water that rushes down a mountain and falls off. Water from
a waterfall flows downstream into a river, which may then converge
with other rivers that flow into a plain. Together they merge into a
bigger river that moves to the sea.

Lake and Pond- A body of water surrounded by land. The water in lakes
comes from a river. A pond may form when part of Earth’s surface caves
in and leaves a hole; rain or water from underground springs and rivers
fills the hole until it becomes a lake or a pond. Some lakes were once
volcanoes. Some ponds are made by humans which are sometimes used
to raise fishes and shrimps.

Lake Sebu, South Cotabato, Mindanao Fish Pond

River- Flowing bodies of water. They are in between lands. River water
comes from a highland called a head. It may end into a lake or into the
sea. The place where the river ends is called the mouth. People Enjoy
bathing in rivers, some wash their clothes there. Some rivers go through
caves. They are called Subterranean or underground rivers.

Cagayan River/ Rio Grande De Cagayan, Cagayan Valley

Sea- A large body of water. It meets the mouth of the river. As the river
flows, the water dissolves salt from soil and rocks, which are carried to
the sea. Some seas are partly or fully enclosed by land. It is called inland
sea. The sea is a major source of various types of fishes.

Philippine Sea, Philippines

Ocean- the sea is part of the ocean. An ocean is a body of saltwater. It is
the largest body of water. Generally, an ocean is bigger than a sea.
There are only five oceans in the world. The pacific, Indian, Antarctic or
Southern Ocean, Artic ocean, and Atlantic Ocean.

Land forms
Volcano- is a mountain that has an opening. It ejects magma, volcanic
ashes, and gases. Some volcanoes are active volcanoes. These volcanoes
can erupt anytime. Some volcanoes have not erupted for a long time,
they are called dormant volcanoes. Some call them sleeping volcanoes.

Mountain- are higher than their surrounding areas, they have steep
slopes and they serve as habitats for wild animals. They are also a main
source of minerals. Water may also flow down from mountains. Because
of their beauty, some mountains become tourist spots. They are usually
rich in water.

Mount Apo, Davao Del Sur

Hill- hills are lower and less steep than mountains. Like mountains, hills
are home to animals. Some people also build houses on hills.

Chocolate hills, Bohol

Plains- plains are the low, flat areas of the earth. Some plains are created
from soil that are carried by floods overtime or by flowing lava after a
volcanic eruption. Many towns and cities are built on plains.

Valleys- are flatlands between hills and mountains. Some valleys have
water forms in them. The soil in valleys is fertile.

Cagayan Valley

Plateaus- are high flatland. They are separated from the other areas by
steep slopes. Many towns cities and agricultural areas are located in
plateaus.

Baguio City
Island- is a landform surrounded by water. The Philippines is made up of
7,107 islands.

Questions:

1. What are the uses of different water forms?

Water forms are used for drinking, bathing washing clothes

transportation washing dishes/utensils, watering plants, sources of
energy, making table salt, home for water animals, and for sports and
reactional activities.

2. What are the uses of different land forms?

Land forms are used for planting, home for land animals, sources of
trees which can be used for building houses furniture, and paper
products, transportation, and places to build houses, parks, and other
buildings.
