3.1_Desctiption of Terms
Transmission Equipment means all equipment
with an operating voltage of 110 kV and above and
includes those elements associated with
transmission systems such as synchronous and
static compensators and also shunt reactors and
Capacitors on the tetiaries of transformers of 110 kV
and above,
Mejor Component means a unit of Transmission
Equipment, including all the associated auxiliaries
that make it a functional entity wthin a power
system.
‘Subcomponent means the constituent components.
of @ Major Component and includes those external
foloments which are associated with it
ATerminal means a transmission line end or cable
‘end which is equipped with primary protection,
A Unit of Ti ion Equipment means a
three-phase installation whether this installation is
made up of one three-phase element or three
single-phase elements.
Primary Cause means the reason to which one can
attribute the outage or maitunction of a Major
Component.
‘Component Forced Outage refers tothe automatic
for emergency removal of a Major Component
directly caused by detective equipment, adverse
weather, adverse environment, system condition,
human element or foreign interference. Recording is
‘not done for the case of healthy Major Components
Which are removed from service as a result of
cascading system events or as a resutt of the
‘outage (or malfunction) of some other Major
Component and recording is not done for manual
removal of a component from service where that
Temoval may be delayed more than thity minutes to
alow load transfer or other operations.
Common Mode Outage means an event whers
more than one component forced outage resuts
{rom a single primary cause and where the outages
are not consequences of each other.
Failure Mode moans a description of the type of
fault (or malfunction) which the system sustains as
4 result of a Component Forced Outage.
Sustained Forced Outage refers to a transmission
ling related forced outage the duration of which is
‘one minute or more, it does, therefore, not include
automatic reclosure events,
Transient Forced Outage refers to:a transmission
line forced outage-the duration of whichis less than
(one-minute andi, therefore, recorded as zero. i
‘covers only automatic reclosure events,
Replacement Time means the elapsed time
‘required to replace the Major Component from stock
or from some other location in the network.
Forced Unavailable Time is the elapsed time
required to restore the Major Component to service
Corto repairit in the case where it has been replaced,
All events have a Forced Unavailable Timo of
‘minimum one minute with the exception of
Automatic Reclosures on Transmission Lines which
are reported as “zero” forced unavailable time.
3.2 Explanation of Column Headings in
Appen«
Kilometre Years (km.a) Is the summation of the
product of the length in kilometres and the period
duration in years for the transmission lines or cables
under consideration,
‘Terminal Years (a) is the summation of the product
of the number of terminals and the period duration in
years, for the transmission lines or cables under
Consideration. A terminal refers to a transmission
ling or cabe end which is equipped with primary
protection.
Component Years (a) is the summation of the
Product of the number of units of a Major
‘Component and the period duration in years, for the
‘major component under consideration.
Number of Outages is the number of major
Component related forced outages which involved
the incicated subcomponent or primary cause,
Frequency (per 100 km.a) is the number of
‘outages divided by Kilometre Years which are in turn
divided by 100.
Frequency (per a) is tho Number of Outages
