SUBJECT IB film
Previous Learning
* Students have been working on their own productions for their final IB assessment. They are
working in the production phase and they need to complete their Production Portfolio.
KUD
* Students will know the assessment criteria used to assess the different elements of the
production portfolio.
* Students will understand what the examiners are looking for in a production portfolio.
* Students will evaluate at least 3 production portfolios done by the Junior class in a similar
role.
Lesson Objectives
* Starter
* Individually- Students will read the scene ‘Baptism’ of the Godfather I movie, this way even, if
they haven’t seen the movie, they will understand the situation.
* Group- Students will watch the scene -they will be able to see how the Director chose to
shoot the script and camera placement.
* Individually- they will analyze the breakdown. This task will help them to visualize how the
scene could’ve been done with the shooting plan, number of actors, scenes, locations, etc…
Discussion:
As a group they will be able to share their thoughts about the Francis Ford Coppola’s
intentions.
Main Task
Individually, students will fill a worksheet with the evaluation for 4 samples. The assessment
criteria includes the production of a short film and the video will also be given. They will be able
to compare if what is written in the portfolio matches what they did on the video. This way, they
will understand the importance of not only producing a good video, but to keep evidence
through documents and reflect through written commentaries.
Justification:
For this task in particular, the main failure is to concentrate in the film production. The IB rubric
evaluates 5 different criterions and only one is assessed entirely with the film. When students
will evaluate the 4 different samples, they will observe how sometimes the best score is not
necessarily the best short film, but the one who provided evidence of the process and was able
to reflect upon his mistakes. It is important for the students to understand how they will be
assessed and look this task through an examiner’s eyes.
Plenary:
Students will discuss what examiners are looking for, and they will write the top 5 suggestions.
Assessment

3. Discussion in plenary.
