Rationale

Las Piñas City, home of the Bamboo Organ is located at the south side of Metro Manila.

The vast city consists of different scale of residences, commercial establishment, and educational

institutions such as schools, colleges and university. The city is mandated to provide its youthful

population a better place for education.

The schools have different functional area that support its academic environment such as

the Accounting, Registrar, Human Resource, and Guidance Office. The Accounting Office

manages the financial functions. The Registrar office maintains the permanent academic records

of the students. Human Resource or also known as the HR Office, is responsible for keeping the

employee’s personal record files. While the Guidance Office which is headed by a Guidance

Counselor and assisted by a Psychometrician, is responsible for facilitating the different student

assessment needed for academic and personal guidance.

The different Psychological assessment conducted by the Guidance Office are;

Personality test, Attitude test, Achievement test, Aptitude test, Vocational test, Direct observation

and Intelligence test. Psychological test provides the Guidance Counselor in understanding the

student unique background of behavior.

Personality test refers to different characteristics of an individual’s personality. Attitude

test is designed to provide a valid and accurate measure of a person’s social attitude. Achievement

test is a degree of ability that have already attained by an individual as well as to measure an

individual’s level of knowledge to be achieved. Aptitude test defines as the testing of person’s

abilities to perform specific tasks and range of reactions in different situations. Vocational test is

the process of determining an individual’s interest, abilities and skills. Direct Observation test is

a type of test assessment that is usually done by observing the subject and knowing the lack of

interest of an individual. Intelligence test or Intelligent Quotient Test (IQ) is derived from several
standardized tests designed that assesses human intelligence. Also, the intelligent test is used to

measures individual mental and physical intelligence.

Each I.Q. test is being conducted once a year by the Guidance Office students as part of

their student record. The testing process is conducted by an authorized facilitator and depends on

the number of items since the test are is done manually using test questionnaires and answer sheets.

After being answered by the students, the facilitator will collect the answer sheets and questionnaire

and submit to the psychometrician for validation and verification. The result will be used by the

Guidance Office for consultation or advising of students when regards to their Academic concerns.

Although there is certain concern when regards to validation and verification of the tests still it is

an important activity of any schools especially in higher education.

On the stated observation and study, the researchers find it inquiring on the effectiveness

of the test and its assessment. And to find to improve the process of conducting an IQ assessment

test with the objective such as; providing accurate, secured and timely results.
