T.E.S BEST IMPLEMENTOR READING NOOK

DIVISION CHAMPION

Reading has always been an important part of learning and an enjoyable

pastime. The more children experience books, the more they will gain the interest
and passion for them.

In line to the celebration of National Reading Month, Perpetual Help Dalta

System – Las Piñas Campus sponsored the search for the Best Reading Nook
2017 – 2018.
Reading Nook provides comfortable, quiet place to retreat and curl up with
a good book. They aren’t just for reading, either. It offers so much more than just
time in a cozy corner. It helps to develop spelling, listening, writing literacy and
social skills.

The Reading Nook of Talon Elementary School was made into reality
through the passion and determination of our principal, Dr. Anelida G. Hebra.

The said project was assigned to Mrs. Marites N. Lezarda. The grade 5
teachers exerted effort and collaborate with one another to put up a nook that will
bring the school the pride and honor.

There are things to be considered in putting up a Reading Nook. A space

also allows them to concentrate and engulf themselves into reading. And the
perfect place is located at the 3rd floor of the Pagcor Building.
 A relaxing Reading Nook wouldn’t be complete without comfortable
seating. The reading area had a comfortable seating (beans bag, chairs, pillows,
a plant or two and a couple of lights for atmosphere.

A sunlight source is also given consideration, the area should have the
ability to let in natural light and to avoid the direct bright sunlight that are harsh to
the eyes, the team consider using window treatments such as sheers and
colored tarpaulin to diffuse harsh light.

To make the Reading Nook complete, the team considered book shelving,
magazine racks and open wall shelving for the ample selection of reading
materials.

The nook caters all students especially the struggling readers. One of the
ways to make a beginning reader or struggling reader successful is to peak his or
her interest knowing that a book contains something interesting to his or her
motivates the child to make an effort to read.

Last November 20, 2017, the School’s Reading Nook was judged by
PSDS English Supervisor Dr. Ronel H. Balistoy, EPS in Science, Dr. Minerva
Bilaos, PSDS Dr. Lucila Cruz and Mr. Aries A. Antiola, the marketing officers of
UPHDS Las Piñas Campus. We have received heartfelt compliments and
amazing feedback from all the judges.

When many people work and cooperate, together we can achieve a

common goal which is SUCCESS. And that is what Talon Elementary School
proved. Judged and proclaimed “Overall Division Champion as BEST READING
NOOK Implementor S.Y. 2017 – 2018.

Let us all move forward and SHINE and continue to work with a HEART.
