2015 Korean-American Society of Houston

Scholarship Application

Please complete and send this form and all additional materials to programs@kashouston.org by
September 1st. Incomplete applications will not be eligible. No late applications will be accepted. Any
questions, comments, or concerns, please email the scholarship chair at programs@kashouston.org.

PURPOSE
The KASH Scholarship recognizes distinguished students who have demonstrated academic
achievement, an interest in Korean culture, and active community involvement. The scholarship will be
rewarded based on these factors to honor and support promising individuals.

AWARD
Three scholarships will be presented in the amount of $1,500 each at the annual Korean Festival in the
fall. The recipients will be given prior notice and are expected to attend the Korean Festival on Saturday,
October 17th, 2015.

QUALIFICATIONS
● Applicants must be EITHER an entering Freshman OR a full-time college student enrolled at a
post-secondary institution in the U.S.
● Applicants must hold a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher

REQUIRED MATERIALS
● A complete scholarship application form
● A complete unofficial high school transcript of grades OR unofficial college transcript
● A proof of enrollment for Fall 2015
● An electronic copy of SAT scores

Section 4 – Essay Project

I. Please visit the Korean War Veterans Digital Memorial (http://www.kwvdm.org/) and using their
online resources to formulate an answer to the following essay prompt (minimum 750 words):

In your opinion, what is the legacy of the Korean War in American and Korean history? How
does your opinion compare to those presented on the Korean War Veterans Digital Memorial?
Why?

Students must reference and quote at least one interview in their essay. Students should
strongly consider using additional reference material. A bibliography is required. Interviews can

II. Provide a brief statement of your educational goals and experiences, as well as you professional
aspirations. Indicate in which areas of study you are considering making your career. Specify
how your current academic program and your overall educational plans will assist you in
