Your Voice

RESONANCE: the ringing, resounding, or

vibrating quality of a voice

Hum softly. Feel the vibration on your lips and

in your nose.
Hum the sound m, n, ng in a low tone.
Hold your nose.
What happens?
Mm m m…
M m m …is the taste
of a marshmallow moon,
as it sweetly awaits you
on its very own spoon. M m m…is the feel
of the light morning mist
M m m…is the taste softly touching your cheek
of a minty milk shake, as if you’ve been kissed.
as cool and refreshing
as a person can make.

M m m…is the feel

of a mountain of mittens,
as soft and furry
as hundreds of kittens.
Pitch: concerns how high or low a voice may be
• Speak the first words of the following passage in a low voice.
Gradually
raise the pitch of your voice as your excitement increases.
There is no way. I couldn’t face myself if I did what you suggest.
It’s impossible. You can’t expect it of me –
you can’t expect it of me – you can’t. I won’t do it.
Never! Never! Never!

• Rise to a high pitch to show excitement and tension but manage very
well the quality of your voice
There he is, over there! He’s circling lower.
He must be in difficulty! Look, look!
he engine’s on fire!
Volume: force or loudness of tone

 Say “You have to do it” with sufficient volume to

meet the demands of the following imaginary situations:
 in normal conversation with a friend
 in a classroom filled with 40 students
 in the auditorium with all graduating students

Say to a friend who is thirty feet away the following

lines:

“They are here!”
