TUGASAN PROJEK 1

The Big 6 is developed by Mike Eisenberg and Bob Berkowitz, the Big6 is the most
widely known and widely used approach to teaching information and technology skills in the
world. Used in thousands of K-12 schools, higher education institutions, and corporate and
adult training programs, the Big6 information problem-solving model is applicable whenever
people need and use information. The Big 6 is a process model of how people of all ages
solve an information problem. Nowadays, we are surrounded with all types of the information
from different types of sources so it is easy for us to find the information. Although we are
surrounded by many information, but we can never seem to find what we want, when we
want it, and in a form we want it so that we can use it effectively. The Big 6 can help us
develop the skills and understandings we need to find, process, and use information
effectively. What skills are contained in the Big 6? The Big 6 consist of task definition,
information seeking strategies, location and access, use of information, synthesis and
evaluation.

The first skill of the Big 6 is task definition. I found that it is difficult to find the true
information about my topic. It is because the information retrieved from the internet has
different types of version. My current task is about adjective. I make a hypothesis before I do
my task .I cannot differentiate the types of adjective which are compound adjective, -ing
adjective, past participle adjective, noun vs adjective, colour adjectives, classifying adjective,
emphasizing adjective and qualitative adjective. If I find all the information I will understand
about my task clearly. The information that I needed is the differences between the types of
adjective and the uses of each types of adjective. I also will discuss with my friends when I
did not understand about something.

The second skill is information seeking strategies. I can get the information from
many types of sources. What are the possible sources that I can search for the information
of my title? The possible sources are the sources from internet, newspaper, magazines,
journal, report, book and the other sources that can be search for the information. I think that
the best sources I will choose to find the information for my task is internet, reference book
especially grammar book and magazines. I think that the sources that I had chosen to finish
my task are suitable for me to find the information.

Next, location and access also is the skill for me to find the information for my task.
Locating sources can be separated into two types which are intellectually and physically.
First, I want to think about what information that I wanted to surf from the internet and the
other sources. I will try to understand how to use search engine to find the information. After
that, I will take the action to search for the information. I can find the information that I
needed in the library, book store and from the internet. I will find the information that related
to my task in the text or someone had said the important sentence that I can get some of the
information for the sentence.

In addition, use of information also very important in the Big 6. I have to engage
myself in the research of the information that is needed for my task. The research can be
carried out by reading, hearing, viewing, and touching. The information that I expect to find
the information in this source is the opinions of the people on my task. When the research is
carrying out, I have to seek for the information of the person and also include myself in some
activity. So that, I have the chances to be more understand about my tasks. I will use
skimming and scanning skill to go through the information. The information of the sources is
useful for me to complete my tasks. The information such as statistic will enable people to
believe the things that I have stated because there are evidences to prove it.

Furthermore, synthesis also is one of the skills in the Big 6. When I get the
information from different sources and location, I have to synthesis the information first
before I take the information. I will read the information form different sources carefully so
that I can organize the information in the proper ways. I will organize my task based on the
information that I get from different sources. I will explain about the main title and continue
with the subtitles for my task. I will separate the title according to the types of my task. I will
spread the result of assignment with different kinds of media.

Evaluation is the last skill for the Big 6. After finish my task, I will check the
effectiveness of my task. I also will check the efficiency of my task when I am doing the
tasks. I will check for the information that I have used in my task is suitable or not. I will think
that I have complete used each of the Big6 Stages efficiently in my task or just a few only. I
will get opinion and suggestion from friend for my task. After doing self-evaluation and
receiving the opinion from my friends, I will learn how to complete the task easily and full of
information.

In the nutshell, this is the first time I use the Big 6 skills to do my task. I discover that
this model can help me in my study because I have to find the information for assignment. I
can find the information correctly for my study and will not face the problem where should I
find the information. The Big 6 skills should be applied in the school for co-curriculum and
curriculum activities. Student will be able to apply in their study easily through some
interesting activities. The skills that contain in the Big 6 are the processes which help student
to master the skills that they have learn in the school. After they have applied the skills, they
not have problem for finding the information.
