Recreation Sites in Krishna District

BHAVANI ISLAND, Bhavani Island situated in the midst of

VIJAYAWADA the Krishna River, at Vijayawada.
It is located at the upstream of Prakasam
Barrage and is considered as one of the
largest river island, with an area of 133
acres (54 ha).
The island is named Bhavani Island in the
name of Goddess Durga, which is located
in close proximity to the temple. APTDC
took initiative to develop it into a tourist
spot.
APTDC has developed the infrastructure
on Bhavani Island, to attract many
tourists, such as sporting activities,
resorts, rural museum, Berm Park

RAJIV GANDHI PARK, Rajiv Gandhi Park, located at the

VIJAYAWADA entrance of Vijayawada is one of the
most prominent attractions of
Vijayawada.
The park is built and maintained by
Vijayawada Municipal Corporation.
This park features musical fountains that
operate every day from 7:30 pm to 8:15
pm, except on Mondays

TOURISM – SIBAR This park features family entertainment

DISNEY LAND, along with water slides, wave pool, kid’s
VIJAYAWADA pool and joy rides.
It also has facilities like food courts, and
gift shops
A simulated volcano and various joy rides
in the park provide great fun and
entertainment to one and all.
BRAHMAYYA The Lake extends between Thotapalli and
LINGAM CHERUVU, Narsingapalem villages of Agiripalli
AGIRIPALLI, KRISHNA Mandal (near Gannavaram), Krishna
DISTRICT District.
It locates 12 km from Gannavaram .
The Lake is in the midst of small hills and
hillocks with luxuriant vegetation.
The Lake is an artificial lake made during
“king's rule” dating back to the 11th
century.
The lake is named after the god
“Brahmalinga” whose temple is near the
lake.
The lake does not have any special

bounds or boundary structure, but is
naturally limited by hills and hillocks.
To the visitor the lake appears as big as a
reservoir or a large water body with
invisible boundaries. The total catchment
area under this lake is about 155 Sq.km.
The lake is currently under the Minor
Irrigation Department in coordination
with the Gram panchayat of Chikkavaram
village.
Around 12 villages are getting water for
their drinking and agriculture purposes.
The lake water serves mainly for
irrigation, apart from Pisciculture and
domestic use (potable).
The registered area for irrigation under
this lake is about 846 ha constituting
both Chikkavaram and Metlapalle of
Gannavaram Mandal.
There is also provision of a channel,
called “Chemala Vagu” through which
the lake water is supplied to villages for
cultivation.
APTDC officials identified this lake as a
site for tourism development.
The officials are planning to introduce
water sports in the lake and resorts on
the hills.
The tourism proposal can be accepted
under the norms of “Ecotourism”, which
will take care of the above issues to the
maximum level, thus preserving the lake
in its native condition.

UPPALAPADU BIRD This Sanctuary is home to around 40
SANCTUARY, species of migratory birds from Siberia

PEDAKAKANI(M), sanctuary is equivalent to Pulicat
GUNTUR DISTRICT Sanctuary in Nellore District.
Many species birds including endangered
Spot-Billed Pelicans and Painted Storks
take refuge in this water tanks in the
village.
Initiatives such as adding artificial trees,
local awareness, proper water supply to
the ponds etc are taken.
The artificial tress are added in the pond
on which the birds can perch in addition
to the natural trees.
