 Comprehending difference between Finance and Accounting

2) Session 2 : Introduction to Finance and Accounting Terms


 Understanding and applying accounting rules and principles such as Accrual, Economic
entity concept, Matching and cost principle, full disclosure principle, going concern
principle etc.
 Learn about various accounting terms such as : Bad Debts, Breakeven point, Return on
Investment, Financial Productivity, Budgets, Net Present value and lot more

3) Session 3: Understanding Financial Framework


 Understanding different components of Financial Statements such as P&L, Balance
Sheet, Cash Flow statements and Notes to Accounts
 Direct costs, Indirect Costs, different levels of profitability etc.
 How to grow top line and bottom line without breaking back

4) Session 4: Deep dive into Cash Flows


 Understanding organisational Cash In/Out Flows from Operations, Investments and
Financing Activities
 Difference between Net Profit and Cash Flow Statements

5) Session 5: Ratio Analysis, Time Value of Money and Capital Budgeting


 What do ratios tell us and how to use them to drive actionable insights
 Understanding performance, profitability, productivity, liquidity and capital structure
based ratios

1) Session 6 : How to Read and Interpret Financial statements


 Read and interpret Financial Statements of two public companies
 Encourage participants to read through their own company’s financial statements
looking for specific financial information

2) Session 7 : Financial Planning and Analysis


 Introduce various functions performed by FP&A department
 Explain development of strategic plans, operational budgets, monthly/quarterly
forecasting, R&O and month end close activities
 Management reporting, Financial Analysis and business modelling

3) Session 8: Understanding Management Decision Making process


 Understanding programmed decisions, Non- Programmed decisions
 Steps in Managerial decision making process
 Capital Structure decisions, Financial Leverage, Working Capital Management, Net
Present value, Pay Back Period, IRR etc

4) Session 9: Understanding Payroll and Tax Related accounting


 Decision to Outsource VS. In-house
 Understanding Payroll Float components
 Payroll processing terms and Accounting entries
 Payroll processing exceptions and how to deal with it

5) Session 10 : Solidify financial knowledge gained over two days with the help of a business case
 Participants are provided with a well laid out business case and asked to apply relevant
financial and accounting concepts learnt over two days
 Participants are asked to provide the solution independently
 Instructor discusses the solution in the end with the entire class.
