To teach at the collegiate level is no easy feat. Unlike secondary and primary educators, college professors are involved in their student’s academic journey for two, three, four or
even five years. They watch their students choose their majors, determine their career paths, apply for graduate programs and create a passion in their work. For some, teaching was
always the end goal. The motivation and drive to finish years of schooling just to return to the classroom is appealing to some. However, some of the professors we see every day had
no idea what they wanted to do, while others didn’t choose the education route until graduate school.

he Baker women’s basketball team opened
up Heart of America Athletic Conference
play with a 68-61 win over Avila Wednesday
night inside the Collins Center.
The game got off to a slow start with the score
tied at 2-2 after three minutes of play. After
trading the lead back and forth, the Wildcats
trailed the Eagles 11-10 after the first quarter.
The ‘Cats found their stride in the second
quarter, outscoring Avila 26 to 12.
Sophomore Jodi Adkins led the Baker offense
with 18 points, going 7-11 in the paint. Junior
Jesse Zweifel and Caitlin Modesett also scored
double digits for the Wildcats with 15 and 12,
respectively.
On the defensive end, senior Courtney Hoag
shut down the Eagles with eight blocks and eight
rebounds. Hoag also assisted the offensive effort
with eight points.
Baker shot 43 percent from the field and 40
percent from the three-point line. The Wildcats
strongest advantage came from their free-throws;
Baker went 14-17 from the free throw line, while
Avila went 3-7.

3 Bowling prepares for Vegas


The Baker University bowling team will travel over winter
break to Las Vegas to compete in two tournaments. The
Wildcats will first compete in the Collegiate Shootout Dec.
18-19, before competing in the Glen Carlson Las Vegas
Invitational on Dec. 20-21.

4 Wrestling ranks No. 14 in poll


The Baker wrestling team ranked No. 14 in the NAIA
Wrestling Coaches' Top 20 poll on Nov. 15. The team
previously ranked No. 13 in the poll. The Wildcats will have a
chance to improve their rank in the Graceland Dual at 7 p.m.
on Friday, inside the Collins Center.

5 Indoor track & field start seasons


The women's and men's indoor track & field teams' seasons
will begin Saturday, at the Bob Timmons Challenge in
Lawrence. Both teams will also compete in the Lewis and
Clark Half Marathon on Sunday in Atchison.
