This procedure describes the removal and installation of field replacement units (FRUs)
starting at the top of the system and then working down and into the system. Some proce-
dures overlap and duplicate the description of some tasks.

When replacing spare parts on the SONOLINE G20 ultrasound system always observe
the safety cautions and warnings.
WARNING The G20 system contains hazardous voltages that can range from
90 VAC to 264 VAC and cause serious injury or death.
¹ Only authorized service personnel are permitted to
remove protective covers and access the energized com-
ponents of this system.
CAUTION The G20 system contains components that are sensitive to dam-
age by electrostatic discharge (ESD).
¹ Observe all ESD protective procedures and use ESD pro-
tective equipment including an ESD wrist strap when the
protective covers are removed from the system.
Before Starting 0
Prior to performing any of the FRU removal or installation procedures, do the following:
1. Move the system to a level area with enough space to work around the system and set
the system brakes.
2. Power off the system, switch off the MAINS power circuit breaker, and leave the power
cord connected to the wall outlet.
After performing any of the FRU installation procedures in this document verify the opera-
tion of the system by performing the following steps:
Monitor 0
This section describes the removal and installation of the G20 monitor and then verifies
the functionality of the monitor after performing the installation. The installation of the
monitor requires approximately ten minutes.
CAUTION The G20 system contains components that are sensitive to dam-
age by electrostatic discharge (ESD).
¹ Observe all ESD protective procedures and use ESD pro-
tective equipment including an ESD wrist strap when the
protective covers are removed from the system.
1. Power off the system, switch off the MAINS power circuit breaker, and disconnect the
power cord from the wall outlet.
2. Loosen (not remove) the screw that secures the monitor post cover to the system.
3. Lift the monitor post cover up, removing it from the system.
4. Unscrew the monitor cable and then unplug it from the connector.
NOTE The monitor cable connector may have one or two screws.
1. Place the monitor on the post and align the two monitor mounting holes with the post
mounting holes.
2. Secure the two screws that secure the monitor to the post.
3. Route the monitor cable through the base of the monitor mount, between the mounting
screws and the post; check that the cable moves freely and stays within the base with-
out binding.
- Rotate the monitor completely counterclockwise and then completely clockwise.
- Tilt the monitor completely forward and back.
- Secure the monitor cable to the connector
- Rotate the monitor completely counterclockwise and then completely clockwise.
Control Panel 0
CAUTION The G20 system contains components that are sensitive to dam-
age by electrostatic discharge (ESD).
¹ Observe all ESD protective procedures and use ESD pro-
tective equipment including an ESD wrist strap when the
protective covers are removed from the system.
1. Power off the system, switch off the MAINS power circuit breaker, and disconnect the
power cord from the wall outlet.
2. Loosen the screw that secures the monitor post cover to the system and remove the
monitor post cover. The control panel screws are accessible.
4. Remove the five screws from the bottom of the control panel.
NOTE Be careful when lifting the control panel off the system, it is still at-
tached to a cable that is attached to the system.
6. Turn the control panel upside-down and disconnect the control panel cable, (Figure 10,
item A).
1. Turn the control panel upside-down and connect the control panel cable (See Fig. 10,
Pos. A).
2. Turn the control panel over and place the control panel on the system.
3. Install the five screws in the bottom of the control panel.
4. Install the two screws that secure the control panel to the system.
5. Install the monitor post cover on the system and secure the screw that secures the
monitor post cover to the system.
Trackball 0
CAUTION The G20 system contains components that are sensitive to dam-
age by electrostatic discharge (ESD).
¹ Observe all ESD protective procedures and use ESD pro-
tective equipment including an ESD wrist strap when the
protective covers are removed from the system.
1. Power off the system, switch off the MAINS power circuit breaker, and disconnect the
power cord from the wall outlet.
2. Rotate the trackball retaining ring counterclockwise, remove the trackball, and then re-
move the control panel (Remove the Control Panel / p. 13).
3. Turn the control panel over and disconnect P2 from J2.
Note the position of the trackball assembly when removing it from the control panel.
4. Remove the two screws that secure the trackball assembly to the control panel.
1. Turn the trackball assembly over and install the two screws that secure the trackball as-
sembly to the control panel.
2. Connect P2 to J2.
3. Install the control panel (Install the Control Panel / p. 15).
4. Place the trackball into the trackball assembly and rotate the retaining ring clockwise to
secure the trackball.
Transducer Holders 0
The short transducer holders and the Gel/Endo transducer holders are removed and
replaced on the system identically. The following steps refer to transducer holders, but the
directions apply to both transducer holders and gel bottle holders.
1. Firmly press the transducer holder upward in the groove on the side of the control pan-
el.
CAUTION Verify that the transducer holder locks into place on the side of the
control panel.
¹ Failure to do so may cause the transducer holder to
detach from the system, dropping the transducer to the
floor and possibly damaging the transducer.
OEM AC Outlet 0
CAUTION The G20 system contains components that are sensitive to dam-
age by electrostatic discharge (ESD).
¹ Observe all ESD protective procedures and use ESD pro-
tective equipment including an ESD wrist strap when the
protective covers are removed from the system.
1. Power off the system, switch off the MAINS power circuit breaker, and disconnect the
power cord from the wall outlet.
2. Remove all peripherals mounted on the OEM shelf.
See the Peripheral Configuration section for detailed steps to remove and install
peripherals.
3. Remove the three screws that secure the OEM AC outlet panel to the system.

NOTE When installing the panel, be careful not to pinch the cables be-
hind the OEM AC outlet panel.
Left-Side Panel 0
This procedure assumes that right and left-side panels are attached to the system; for
systems that have one panel removed complete only steps 1 and 2.
1. Power off the system, switch off the MAINS power circuit breaker, and disconnect the
power cord from the wall outlet.
2. Loosen the four captive screws that secure the left panel to the system.
1. Align the left-side panel four captive screws with their matching mounting holes and
tighten the captive screws.
2. Couple the left-side panel to the system.
- Move to the front of the system.
- Press the side panel into place. The panel should snap back into place.
Right-Side Panel 0
There are two configurations for the right-side panel, one for the LC system and one for
the SLC system. The LC system is configured with a transducer “parking” port; the SLC
system is configured with a transducer sector port. The right-side panel is a spare part
that ships from the factory configured for the LC system. For SLC systems, the “parking”
port cover must be removed and replaced with the sector port cover. The sector port cover
components are shipped along with the right-side panel.
The right-side panel procedures assume that right and left-side panels are attached to the
system.
1. Power off the system, switch off the MAINS power circuit breaker, and disconnect the
power cord from the wall outlet.
2. If connected, disconnect the transducers from the system.
3. Loosen the four captive screws that secure the right panel to the system.
The installation of the right-side panel on a G20 LC system differs from that of an SLC
system, because the LC and the SLC use different port covers. For an LC system, install
the right-side panel as it is assembled from the factory. For an SLC system, the LC “park-
ing” port cover must be removed and replaced with the SLC sector port cover compo-
nents.
1. Align the right-side panel four captive screws with their matching mounting holes and
secure the captive screws.
2. Couple the right-side panel to the system.
- Move to the front of the system.
- Press the side panel into place. The panel should snap back into place.
1. Remove the four screws that secure the LC “parking” port cover to the side panel.
Discard the metal plate.
2. Mount the SLC sector port cover where the LC “parking” port cover was mounted.
- Align the SLC sector port cover to right-side panel.
- Tighten the four mounting screws that secure the SLC sector port cover to the side
panel.
OEM Shelf 0
CAUTION The G20 system contains components that are sensitive to dam-
age by electrostatic discharge (ESD).
¹ Observe all ESD protective procedures and use ESD pro-
tective equipment including an ESD wrist strap when the
protective covers are removed from the system.
1. Power off the system, switch off the MAINS power circuit breaker, and disconnect the
power cord from the wall outlet.
2. Remove all peripherals from the OEM shelf.
3. Remove the OEM AC outlet panel (Remove the OEM AC Outlet / p. 19).
4. Remove the left-side panel.
5. Remove the right-side panel
6. Remove the two screws that secure the shelf to the right-side of the system.
NOTE When installing the OEM shelf, do not to pinch the OEM AC outlet
cable.
1. Slide the shelf tab into the groove in the rear of the OEM bay.

2. Install the OEM AC outlet panel (Install the OEM AC Outlet / p. 20).
3. Install the two screws on the right-side of the system that secure the OEM shelf the sys-
tem.
4. Install the two screws on the left-side of the system that secure the OEM shelf the sys-
tem.
Caster Panel 0
1. Remove the side panel on the same side as the caster that will be removed.
2. Remove the two screws that secure the top of the caster panel to the system.
1. Place the panel on the caster frame; align the top two fastener holes in the cover with
the holes in the frame and secure the screws.
2. Install the five side screws that secure the caster panel to the system.
3. Install the side panel.
Caster 0
1. Power off the system, switch off the MAINS power circuit breaker, and disconnect the
power cord from the wall outlet.
2. Remove the side panel on the same side as the caster that will be removed.
3. Remove the caster panel.
4. Use a jack to raise the system one and a half inches off the floor; place blocks under the
caster frame next to each caster.
5. Use an adjustable wrench to remove the retaining nut from the frame and remove the
caster.
1. Apply Loctite # 262 to the thread of the caster and screw the caster into the frame; se-
cure the retaining nut.
2. Remove the blocks from under the caster frame and lower the system off of the jack.
3. Install the caster panel.
4. Install the side panel.
CD-RW Drive 0
CAUTION The G20 system contains components that are sensitive to dam-
age by electrostatic discharge (ESD).
¹ Observe all ESD protective procedures and use ESD pro-
tective equipment including an ESD wrist strap when the
protective covers are removed from the system.
1. Power off the system, switch off the MAINS power circuit breaker, and disconnect the
power cord from the wall outlet.
2. Remove the left-side panel (Remove the Left-Side Panel / p. 21).
3. Remove the right-side panel (Remove the Right-Side Panel / p. 23).
4. Remove the OEM shelf (Remove the OEM Shelf / p. 27).
5. Remove the two screws that secure the front of the CD-RW drive mounting plate to the
system.
7. Remove the rear shielding cover (Remove the Front Shielding Cover / p. 36); this al-
lows access to disconnect the CD-RW cable.
8. Disconnect the CD-RW drive cable and slide the CD-RW drive out from the system.
1. Slide the CD-RW drive assembly into the system and connect the CD-RW drive cable.
2. Install the rear shielding cover (Install the Front Shielding Cover / p. 37).
3. Install the two screws that secure the top of the CD-RW drive mounting plate to the sys-
tem.
4. Install the two screws that secure the front of the CD-RW drive mounting plate to the
system.
5. Install the OEM shelf (Install the OEM Shelf / p. 28).
6. Install the right-side panel (Install the Right-Side Panel / p. 25).
7. Install the left-side panel (Install the Left-Side Panel / p. 22).
3. Place a CD-R disk in the CD-RW drive and save the fake patient images to the CD-R
disk.
4. Eject the CD-R disk and re-insert the CD-R disk into the CD-RW drive.
5. Access the file on the CD-R disk. If the file cannot be accessed, or if it is damaged or in-
complete, do the following:
- Store the file to another CD-R disk.
- Check the CD-RW drive cable connections.
- Install the CD-RW drive.

protective covers are removed from the system.
The front PCBs are located in the card cage behind the front shielding cover.
The G20 LC card cage includes the following PCBs:
• A34 AVIF2
• A33 ECPR
• A33-2 SBC
• A31 TRBF
• A30 TXRX/A30-1 PBIF Assembly
The G20 SLC card cage includes the following PCBs:
• A34 AVIF2
• A33 ECPR
• A33-2 SBC
• A32 CFMS
• A31 TRBF
• A30 TXRX/A30-1 PBIF Assembly
• A37 MPXA
• A37-1 MPXT

1. Power off the system, switch off the MAINS power circuit breaker, and disconnect the
power cord from the wall outlet.
2. Remove the left-side panel (Remove the Left-Side Panel / p. 21).
3. Remove the right-side panel (Remove the Right-Side Panel / p. 23).
4. Remove the six upper screws and loosen the two lower screws that secure the front
shielding cover to the system and remove the cover.
1. Install the six upper screws and tighten the two lower screws that secure the front
shielding cover to the system and remove the cover.
2. Install the right-side panel (Install the Right-Side Panel / p. 25).
3. Install the left-side panel (Install the Left-Side Panel / p. 22).
CAUTION The G20 system contains components that are sensitive to dam-
age by electrostatic discharge (ESD).

tective equipment including an ESD wrist strap when the
protective covers are removed from the system.
1. Power off the system, switch off the MAINS power circuit breaker, and disconnect the
power cord from the wall outlet.
2. Disconnect all connectors from the I/O panel.
3. Remove the left-side panel (Remove the Left-Side Panel / p. 21).
4. Remove the right-side panel (Remove the Right-Side Panel / p. 23).
5. Remove the front shielding cover (Remove the Front Shielding Cover / p. 36).
6. Disconnect J20 and J21 from the I/O panel.
7. Remove the ten screws that secure the I/O panel to the system.

1. Slide the A34 AVIF2 PCB most of the way into the A34 slot of the card cage; connect
the small ribbon cable to the A33 ECPR PCB and big ribbon cable to the A34 AVIF2
PCB, and then seat the PCB into the card cage.

2. Install the ten screws that secure the I/O panel to the system.
3. Connect J20 and J21 to the I/O panel.
4. Install the front shielding cover (Install the Front Shielding Cover / p. 37).
5. Install the right-side panel (Install the Right-Side Panel / p. 25).
6. Install the left-side panel (Install the Left-Side Panel / p. 22).
7. Connect all connectors to the I/O panel.

4. Remove the front shielding cover (Remove the Front Shielding Cover / p. 36).
5. Locate and remove the A33ECPR PCB.
a) Press the PCB release tab.
b) Carefully disconnect the small ribbon cable from the A34 AVIF2 PCB.

c) Remove the A33 ECPR PCB from the card cage and place it in an ESD work area.
6. Remove the A33-3 HDD from the A33 ECPR PCB that was removed from the system.
Note the routing of all cables removed from the two PCBs.
a) From the removed A33 ECPR PCB, disconnect the power cable from the A33-3
HDD.
b) Disconnect the ribbon cable from the A33-3 HDD.
c) Remove the four screws that secure the A33-3 HDD to the removed A33 ECPR
PCB and remove the A33-3 HDD from the A33 ECPR.
d) Disconnect power cable P8 and ribbon cable P10 from the removed A33 ECPR
PCB.
e) Remove the four screws that secure the A33-2 SBC PCB to the removed A33 ECPR
PCB.
f) Disconnect the A33-2 SBC from the SBCR at J1 and remove the A33-2 SBC PCB
with the cables.
1. Install the components and cables removed in the previous step to the new A33 ECPR
PCB.
a) Place the new A33 ECPR PCB in an ESD work area.
b) Position the A33-2 SBC PCB on the new A33 ECPR PCB.
c) Route the cables on the A33 ECPR PCB as they were routed prior to their removal.
d) Connect the A33-2 SBC to the SBCR J1.
e) Install and tighten the four screws that secure the A33-2 SBC PCB to the new A33
ECPR PCB.
f) Connect power cable P8 and ribbon cable P10 to the new A33 ECPR PCB.
g) Place the A33-3 HDD on the new A33 ECPR PCB; install and tighten the four
screws that secure the HDD to the new A33 ECPR PCB.
h) Connect the ribbon cable to the A33-3 HDD.
i) Connect the power cable to the A33-3 HDD.
2. Slide the A33 ECPR PCB into the A33 slot of the card cage; connect the small ribbon
cable to the A33 ECPR PCB and seat the PCB into the card cage.

the A33-2 SBC PCB to the A33 ECPR PCB.
3. Install the A33 ECPR PCB (Install the A33 ECPR PCB / p. 40) and reconnect the rib-
bon cables to the A34 AVIF2 PCB.

2. Align mounting holes and install the four screws that secure the sector port to the sys-
tem.
3. Install the front shielding cover (Install the Front Shielding Cover / p. 37).
4. Install the right-side panel (Install the Right-Side Panel / p. 25).
5. Install the left-side panel (Install the Left-Side Panel / p. 22).
1. Power off the system, switch off the MAINS power circuit breaker, and disconnect the

8. Gently pull the A37-1 MPXT PCB until the board disconnects from the A35 mother
board, and then set the sector port in an ESD-safe area.
1. Plug the A37-1 MPXT PCB into the A35 mother board.
2. Install and tighten the five screws that secure the A37-1 MPXT PCB to the system
frame.
3. Install the A30 TXRX PCB/A30-1 PBIF PCB assembly (Install the A30 TXRX
PCB/A30-1 PBIF PCB Assembly / p. 48).
4. Install the A37 MPXA PCB (Install the A37 MPXA PCB / p. 49).
5. Install the front shielding cover (Install the Front Shielding Cover / p. 37).
