Science Unit Plan

Title of the Unit: Sound Grade(s) Level: Grade 4/5

Length of Unit (# of Hours or Weeks): 6 Weeks

UNIT OVERVIEW
Over six weeks, students will learn the basics of sound in the environment, both artificial and natural. The properties of different sounds
will be a focus as well as how sound is created and heard. A variety of lessons are planned that incorporate different activities and
methods that are hopefully engaging to students. Multiple versions of common games are also part of some lessons and used to
provide entertainment and learning at the same time.

OBJECTIVES / LEARNING OUTCOMES

Please refer to curriculum documents.

SO4.1 Explore natural and artificial sources of sound in the environment and how those sounds are detected by humans and
animals. [CP, SI]

SO4.2 Draw conclusions about the characteristics and physical properties of sound, including pitch and loudness, based on
observation. [CP,SI]

SO4.3 Assess personal, societal, and environmental impacts of sound-related technologies. [DM, TPS]
