Theta Sigma Chapter


Alpha Phi International Fraternity

Upon becoming a member of Alpha Phi Fraternity you promised to uphold certain ideals
and standards of scholarship, service, sisterhood, character development, leadership, and
loyalty. The actions of each member directly reflect on the chapter and our international
organization. The Theta Sigma Chapter of Alpha Phi has developed these standards of
excellence to help guide sisters in maintaining our standards and ideals. If a member fails to
abide by these standards disciplinary actions will be taken by the Vice President of Risk
Management or Judiciary Board.

Code of Excellence

“At all times, it is our aim to promote the highest ideal of womanhood. In our effort to become
more effective and contributing members of society, we shall strive for growth in character,
intellectual development and leadership capabilities.”

“In all that we do, we shall encourage unity of feeling, sisterly affection, and social comunion.
We shall employ the principles of justice and right, and give and receive criticism in a spirit of
love.”

“As we search for truth, we shall be mindful of our personal conduct. Our attitudes, beliefs, and
actions must not reflect in a damaging way on the image of our chapter or the Fraternity, or our
members individually. We shall endeavor to represent the best in culture and refinement. We
shall abide by the Constitution and Bylaws, Standing Rules, and Collegiate Chapter Operations
Manual of Alpha Phi International Fraternity. Appropriate steps will be taken if and when
infractions occur. Similarly, if an individual member of our chapter chooses not to commit herself
and live by the high ideals of Alpha PHi and this chapter, due process will ensue and prevail.:”

Article IX, Section 2 of the CCOM

Philosophy

An Alpha Phi shall conduct herself morally, intellectually and physically in an manner which
bespeaks pride in self and respect for the goals and ideals of Alpha Phi International Fraternity.
in pursuit of the highest ideal of womanhood, each Alpha Phi members shall be a positive
influence as a Greek, campus and community leader. Alpha Phi has, since inception,
encouraged each member to strive for self-respect and self-knowledge in an effort to foster the
personal development of each member…
Article III, Alpha Phi Constitution
I. Individual Integrity
A. We will keep all knowledge of the business, transactions and affairs of the Theta
Sigma Chapter confidential.
1. We will value and honor our traditions and ceremonies with the utmost
respect.
B. We will report events and happenings honestly and will take responsibility for our
actions.
C. We acknowledge that dependability is an important virtue. Therefore, we shall
welcome and accept responsibility to support all chapter functions and fulfill
elected or appointed officer duties.
1. As a member and officers of the chapter we will always seek out
assistance if help is needed in completing our obligations of membership
or office.
II. Appearance
A. We recognize that wearing our letters is an outward symbol of our fraternity;
therefore all sisters wearing our letters will look presentable. In casual attire this
means no mini skirts, booty shorts, or dirty clothing.
B. We as sisters of Alpha Phi hold our badge as a symbol of our high ideals,
therefore when we wear our pin, our dress must be in accordance. Business
attire is required - jeans, t-shirts, leggings, or clothing with stains or holes are
unacceptable. Dress pants are acceptable excluding formal chapter. When
wearing dresses or skirts, the length must be no shorter than four fingers above
your knee. Straps must be no less than three fingers in width. We will wear our
pin attire every Monday as we strive to represent Alpha Phi in a positive way.
C. We understand that our appearance, behavior, and image are always under
direct judgement of others and should be appropriate for the social situations in
which we interact, even when we are not at All Greek functions. If these
standards are not followed after the third warning, from an Executive Council
member, a judiciary board will be issued.
III. Conduct
A. Sisters must uphold the rules of Theta Sigma Chapter’s Risk Management
Policy.
1. We as members of Alpha Phi understand that any type of hazing is
prohibited. Members will not participate in any hazing activity, whether as
an instigator or bystander.
2. We understand the importance of bystander behavior. If we see a sister
engaging in dangerous or inappropriate action we will take active steps to
resolve the situation or summon assistance.
B. Members are required to attend all chapter meetings as outlined in the Theta
Sigma Chapter bylaws
C. Sisters are expected to attend service, unities and all philanthropic events.
D. Sisters are required to attend all recruitment workshops and events.
E. We as members will encourage a positive image of our chapter. If our chapter’s
reputation is under attack, sisters shall defend it by positive example and will
work to correct the negative aspects.
1. We as sisters of Alpha Phi will refrain from disparaging any sister whether
outside or within the sisterhood.
F. We will act with appropriate manners at all social functions. Disruptive behavior
of a member will result in her removal from the event and judiciary hearing.
1. sisters are responsible for their guests’ conduct at events. If a sister’s
guest is behaving inappropriately the sister and their guest may be asked
to leave the event and summoned to a judiciary hearing.
2. Promiscuous behavior will not be tolerated. We shall further pledge to
avoid overt displays of affection that would or might be objectionable or
embarrassing to those around us.
3. Abusive language, dirty songs, and dirty jokes show disrespect for those
around us. We shall never place alumnae, parents, or guests of the
chapter in a situation of feeling uncomfortable or embarrassed by actions
of the chapter.
IV. Attitude
A. We will remain open to new ideas and visions for our chapter, and be
cooperative to sisters trying to carry our business for the chapter.
B. Sisters should strive to maintain good morale in the chapter. At all times we will
maintain a positive and sisterly attitude. During and in preparation for Alpha Phi
events, sisters should be cooperative and display pride in being a member of this
chapter.
1. We understand that not all activities meet the needs of every sister, but
we will participate in good nature for the sisters who will benefit from such
events and decisions.
C. We will always deal with criticism in kindness (both in giving and receiving)
knowing that we all are working towards a greater good.
D. We will give a sister the benefit of the doubt in all situations and give each sister
a chance to explain any issues with a member or the chapter.
V. Scholarship
A. Sisters must constantly ensure that the Theta Sigma Chapter’s Scholarship Plan
is being upheld. As these are constantly changing, it is the member’s
responsibility to ensure continual compliance.
VI. Watchcare
A. Sisters will annually review the Watchcare Policy of the Theta Sigma Chapter.
B. We understand that Watchcare encompasses all aspects of our member’s lives.
Whenever a sister is experiencing difficulty or an emergency it is our
responsibility to support her. Examples include but are not limited to: abusive
partners, eating disorders, death of a loved one, health issues, scholarship,
addictions, etc.
1. If a sister suspects a member need help she will contact the Director of
Watchcare or an Executive Council member immediately.
C. We as sisters use the Theta Sigma safe words (Silver, Bordeaux and
Hogoboom) at events and during everyday activities when a sister is behaving
inappropriately.
VII. Drugs and Alcohol
A. Drugs and Controlled Substances
1. The use, possession, and/or distribution of illegal or contraband drugs are
prohibited by any member or guest on Alpha Phi owned or occupied
property.
2. The use, possession, or distribution of illegal or contraband drugs is
prohibited at any Alpha Phi sponsored event by members or guests.
3. Any member issued a ticket in the sale, possession, or use of any
narcotics and/or illegal drugs will be reported to the Judiciary Board.
B. Alcohol
1. Alcohol will not be permitted at any Alpha Phi event. Monetary collections
by groups of sisters taken for the purpose of purchasing alcohol are not
permitted.
2. No alcohol shall be present at any new member activity or sisterhood
event. This includes “pre” and “post” parties.
3. We know that alcohol beverages are not to be stored, served, or
consumed in Alpha Phi Chapter houses, rooms, suites, or any other
Alpha Phi controlled property.
4. We shall not drink alcoholic beverages while wearing our letters or badge
regardless of age.
5. Any member issued a ticket in the sale, possession, or use of any alcohol
consumption will be reported to the judiciary board.
VIII. Social Media
A. Sisters must constantly ensure that the Theta Sigma Chapter’s Social Media
Policy is being upheld. As these sites are constantly changing, it is the member’s
responsibility to ensure continual compliance.

As a member of Alpha Phi, we will strive to uphold the ideals and standards of our
organization, grow in character, promote intellectual development, and develop leadership
capabilities. In everything we do, we are representing our beloved fraternity. Therefore, we will
hold our members accountable to these standards in a spirit of love and we will work hand in
hand to achieve these ideals and follow the guidelines set out before us by our founders.
I have read the above Standards of Excellence and promise to abide by these
rules and standards set for by Alpha Phi International Fraternity and the Theta Sigma
Chapter of Southern Utah University. I understand failure to abide by these standards will
result in disciplinary actions by the Judiciary Board.
