Who killed cock robin? Industry (factories) said


I, said the worm,
it poisoned the lake
I did him great harm. with mercury. All fish,
He died on the branch of a
plant and weed died
withered tree because men polluted
the lake.
From the acid soil that poisoned
me

The wind said it killed


Who killed the heron? the flowers because it
I, mouthed the fish,
blew acid rain over
field, flood and fen.
With my tainted flesh
I killed tern, duck and drake,
All the birds of the lake
Sulphur dioxide (from
cars and factories) said
Who killed the lake?
it killed the forest and
I, boasted Industry, everything that lived in
I poisoned with mercury the forest.
Fish, plant and weed
To pamper men’s greed

The worm said the acid


soil poisoned it and
Who killed the flowers? now it had poisoned
cock robin after the bird
I, moaned the wind, ate the worm.
I prowl unconfined,
Blowing acid rain
Over field, flood and fen. The fish said its
poisoned flesh killed all
the birds of the lake.

Who killed the forest?


I ensured that it died,
Said sulphur dioxide.
And all life within it,
from earthworm to linnet.
