CITY: KRAKÓW

Nowa Huta Reservoir (Zalew Nowohucki) and Dłubnia River

1. POLICY AND PLANNING OUTCOMES

MAIN CHALLANGES
-Nowa Huta is the greenest district of Kraków and we want to promote particular this aspect
of Nowa Huta. This is a new approach because Nowa Huta is usually connected with concrete
buildings.
-Nowa Huta’s river- Dłubnia is an unique river called the last wild river in Kraków. Canoeing
Rally is organized on Dłubnia river but the biggest problem is contaminated river bank.
-Now Canoeing Rally is private project (http://nowahutatravel.pl/splyw-kajakowy/) but we
want together with private stakeholder create new Municipal sport programme
- there is no Municipal Sport Programme in this area

DEVELOP A MISSION

- creating Municipal sport programme which will be suitable as well for youth as for seniors-
the idea is Canoeing Rally in Nowa Huta. This program will be partnership between private
sector and Municipality.
- using a potential of water reservoir and sport facilities existing in the vicinity of Dłubnia river.
We want to implement municipal sports programmes like Nordic walking route or sports
activities on multifunctional pitches.
-planning decisions related to the built environment consider physical and ecology concerns
-promoting via social medias

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
- eco- education among citizen to keep the river bank clean . The clean area free of litter
should be created by people with help of Municipality. The river bank should be cleaned
regularly not only by volunteers but also by the relevant Municipality stuff.
- promotion of Dłbunia river and vicinity as “Green lounge of Nowa Huta” where all citizens in
all age (youth, children, young adults and seniors) can enjoy nature free of litter. The clean
surrounding will foster to spend more time on open air and be active.
- create tailored made Municipal Sport Programme for youth and seniors
- promote Nowa Huta as a centre of sport and beautiful nature. Which will give the fresh look
on this post-communist area
- Municipal sports programme in this area should be low cost or free of charge.

2. OUTCOMES ON SOCIO-SPATIAL LEVEL

MAIN CHALLANGES
-how to involve both young and elderly to stay active
-create activities which will attract people (tailor made for population structure of the target
area)
-improvement of public transport
-in the vicinity of Dłubnia River is the water reservoir, playground, sport ground and open air
swimming poll (open only during holidays) this great potential should be used in policy
concerning sport activities

DEVELOP A MISSION
-clean, free of litter neighbourhood, route for skaters
-better orchestrated of public transport
-implementation of Municipal Sport Programmes
-building trust between citizens and public administration (survey what kind of sport activity
is needed there)

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
-rise awareness of the importance of sport activity in all age
-consultations with citizens about Municipal Sport Programmes
-different sport activities during the seasons (accessible facilities and equipment for psychical
activity for all year)
- citizens, private sector and public sector partnership for creating Municipal policy in sport
-implemented of place making process

3. BUSINESS, FINANCING AND MANAGEMENT ASPECT

MAIN CHALLANGES
-two financing models: fully public and shared financing with sports clubs. Lack of public-
private-partnership
-the sport infrastructure is owned by public administration and sometimes nothing happen
there

DEVELOP A MISSION
-organizing events coo financing with private sector
-use of existing sport infrastructure ex. Relocation of Municipal Sport Programmes
-cooperation with NGO’s, sports clubs in process of implementation sports activity on
particular area

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
-partnership with private stakeholders (financing, organizing sport events, workshops etc.)
-building trustworthy cooperation between public administration and private sector
-working out the good practises of cooperation between Municipality and private or third
sector –will encourage to continue this cooperation in the future
