Day 2

Content Focus: We have plants in the environment.

Message: Plants have different parts.

Work Period 1

Teacher-Supervised Activity: Plants Parts Puzzle

Competencies:

1. The students will learn how to form puzzles.

2. Observe, describe, and examine common plants using their senses

3. The students will know the parts of the plant.

Material: simple plant puzzle that can be posted on the board

Procedure:

1. Call on volunteers to put together the puzzle in front of the class.

2. Introduce the parts of the plants by asking learners to label the parts: roots,
stem or trunk, leaves.

3. Tell the learners that some have flowers and/or fruits as the teacher tapes these
parts on the puzzle.

Independent Activities:

Group 1: How Many Syllables?

Competency:

1. Tell the number of syllables in given spoken words.


Materials: 10 picture cards of words with 2 and 3 syllables, two small boxes labeled 2
and 3

Preparation: Prepare picture cards of fruits and vegetables

Procedure:

1. Learners will pick a picture card and say the name of picture aloud.

2. S/he will count the number of syllables of the word by clapping each syllable.

3. If s/he is able to get the number of syllables correctly, s/he can put the picture
card in the corresponding number box.

4. If the child guesses incorrectly, ask the whole group to clap it out together so
s/he can put the card in the right box.

5. The game ends when all of the cards are in the right boxes.

Group 2: Garden Letters Hunt

Competency:

1. Match an upper case letter to its lower case letter.

Materials: cards with uppercase letters A-Z, cards with lowercase letters a-z, pencil

Preparation: Hide cards with lowercase letters a-z around the room

Procedure:

1. The learners will write the lowercase letters a-z in its uppercase letters.

2. The uppercase letters will be distributed among the learners.

3. The will look for the matching lowercase letters around the room.

4. The will identify the letters that they find.


Group 3: Leaf Rubbing

Competencies:

1. The students will observe the line, color, shape, and texture of leaves.

2. The students will learn to rub a crayon on the paper that is lied on a leaf.

Materials: paper, crayons, leaves with different pattern

Preparation: Bring different kinds of leaves.

Procedure:

1. The learners will put the leaf under a piece of paper then rub the crayon on the
top of it.

2. Describe the impression made on the paper.

Group 4: Arranging Plant Names Alphabetically

Competencies:

1. The students will learn to arrange words in alphabetical order.

2. The students will develop the sense of cooperation.

Materials: word cards

Procedure:

1. Give them a set of word cards, randomly shuffled.


2. The students will arrange the 26 cards in alphabetical order.
