Universal Design for Learning (UDL): BrainPop has multiple languages represented on its website to cater to
ELL students and their families. In addition to this, BrainPop can be used as a supplemental tool in lieu of a
tutor to help struggling students get more instruction with the tutorial videos and more practice with the
interactive games and quizzes they offer for each lesson. Students can work at their own pace and explore
which ever resources would be fun or beneficial to them personally.
Lesson idea implementation: To begin this lesson, I will have multiple items placed on each table group’s
desk in cups. These items could be beans, buttons, or any other type of manipulative small enough to be
handled easily. They will pair them up into twos in their groups and record which ones had left overs and
which ones were all paired up. Then we will discuss why the students think this happens. After the brief

discussion, we will all watch the BrainPop video tutorial to better understand the differences between even
and odd numbers and how to easily differentiate between the two. The point of this is for them to
understand that the ones place determines whether a number is even or odd.
After we watch the video, the groups will then take their paper they recorded the pre-determined
manipulatives on and find other items around the room that they can count and determine if they are even or
odd. Once they do this, they will turn in their sheets, so I can make sure they understood the assignment and
were accurate in their findings. They will then have a worksheet on adding even and odd numbers to see if
they can apply what they have learned. They will find the answer and label each number as even or odd as
they go. This worksheet as well as their recording paper will be the immediate assessment on whether they
truly understand the concept.
Reflective Practice: For extending this practice, concepts of even and odd numbers can span forth as long as
they are learning about numbers. Counting by twos is a concept they should be familiar with before this can
they can be encouraged to use the technique in the future. The ideas can be brought up in future lessons
without being the focus. I would also have the activity sheet from BrainPop where they do a connect the dots
picture with only connecting the even dots that they could work on in the future when they have some down
time.
